The University of Pennsylvania has lost one of its biggest longtime donors while several other institutions are reportedly facing pressure from powerful financial backers over what they see as insufficient condemnation of Hamas' attack on Israel.

Jon Huntsman, a former U.S. ambassador to China and Russia, told Penn President Liz Magill that his family will "close its checkbook" on future donations to the university.

Colleges shouldn't be taking any political or social stances on anything. They are there to supposedly educate people, not get wrapped up in bullshit.

Colleges and companies would do well to stay out of shit and just do whatever it is they do. But somehow this idea every orginzation now has to "stand with" something has seeped into our society.

And if a college is suffering from lack of donations it's time they step back. If you're a college that isn't very specialized and niche in some way and you need donations beyond all your other sources of income then you're doing something wrong.

Students can go crazy and future employers can threaten to blacklist but the only pressure that universities bow to is alumni donations. If that dries up the education elitists are doomed to finding jobs in the real world.
