That would be about 1 out of every 40 children under 12.
Sounds just a tad unrealistic...right? Of course it does.
That is, until you actually look at what definition they use.
Anyone who "lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence."

The word "adequate" is key.
Not to say homelessness isn't increasing in America - it is. That is what happens when you had a society where 67% of the economy was based on consumer debt spending. Oops.
And when you had the nations leaders spending an entire year ignoring the bad economy so they could pass a nationwide healthcare plan that wouldn't take effect for several years and may very well never truly come to existence.
