Trump dismisses 'phony Emoluments Clause' after Doral criticism

:113::113:
There were several Gov. Departments who looked at 12 sites in 10 States, across the country and all agreed Doral was the best place for it to be held.

Chuckle. Wasn't "Mainstream media is not reporting the above information" more than enough to determine the status of the assertions as horse manure spread far and wide throughout the rightarded blabbosphere?

And if that really, really wasn't enough, "This was not a no-bid contract, not when 12 other sties were looked at" is so benighted as to close the deal.
"rightarded blabbosphere" :113::113::5_1_12024::beer:

"Cost" is not free. For a resort that has been operating below the profit line for a couple of years its a month or two without a loss. Certainly a material gain for the owner.
If you think it is such a big deal, go down there and carry a sign in protest. Jesus, mountains out of mole hills.
Don't need to. He already backed down.
So there is NO problem-as I have said!

There are two HUGE problems. We have the president of the United States trying to award HIMSELF a no-bid federal contract. Which is a flagrant abuuse of power.

AND we have President demonstrating that his 'blind trust' is complete fake with his claim that he was going to "give it for free." How can the president give ANYTHING for free from a business over which has no say, nor is even getting information regarding?

So we have the President LYING about his blind trust, LYING about not being in control of his businesses and using the office of the presidency to advance his personal business interests.

Those are HUGE problems.

There were several Gov. Departments who looked at 12 sites in 10 States, across the country and all agreed Doral was the best place for it to be held.

No, that would be Trump's Chief of staff Mulvaney who said it was the 'best place', citing HIS OWN STAFF.

The striking reversal raises further doubts about Mulvaney's future in the chief of staff job. He held a news conference Thursday announcing the choice of Doral for the summit. He insisted his staff had concluded it was "far and away the best physical facility." Mulvaney said the White House reached that determination after visiting 10 sites across the country.

White House: Summit at Trump Property Would Look 'Lousy'

Odd, Doral has never hosted a G-7 meeting before. Yet suddenly its the 'best place' in the country....per the White House, of course.

Imagine the odds!

This was not a no-bid contract, not when 12 other sties were looked at.
He offered the use of Doral for free they looked into it, they made the decision not Trump .

Show us any other bid that was put in from any other site.

There is none. Trump granted the no-bid contract to himself....which is a felony. And an obvious and blatant abuse of power.

And of course, in Trump's awkward attempt to walk back the felony, he revealed that his blind trust is a lie. As how would Trump have 'given it away for free' in a business he has no say over, nor even communicates with the Trustees (aka, his kids) about?

So we have Trump LYING about a fake blind trust and using the power of the presidency to award HIMSELF a no-bid federal contract to promote his personal business interests.

The layers of wild, obvious corruption are just sickening. As is the corruption within the GOP itself for enabling such crimes.

Laughing.....even Mulvaney couldn't explain how Trump could be offering any discounts if his business were in a blind trust.

And Trump awarding himself a no-bid contract isn't even a secret. Trump was very open and upfront about that felony.

Hello there..just a correction..Trump has never put his assets into a blind trust..never..which has been the entire crux of the matter...he gave control of his company to his children and basically said, 'trust me'..that he would have no input. But there is not, and has never been, a blind trust. You are correct when you say his statement showed him to be a liar about the level of control he has..but we all knew that, right? There is a revocable trust..which is not the same thing at all.

Report: Trump Assets in Revocable, Not Blind, Trust

"Many U.S. presidents have placed their financial holdings in a blind trust that is managed by a trustee without any input from the president. This arrangement is believed to help the president avoid any conflicts of interest between his finances and issues that come across his desk.
U.S. President Donald Trump, however, has avoided calls for him to sell his assets or place them in a blind trust, according to a report in The New York Times. Trump has noted that presidents are not legally obliged to do so.
Instead, the president has a revocable trust and the trustees are his eldest son Donald, Jr. and Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization’s chief financial officer.
“I don’t see how this in the slightest bit avoids a conflict of interest,” Frederick Tansill, a trust and estates lawyer told the Times. “First it is revocable at any time, and it is his son and his chief financial officer who are running it.”"

That's exactly my point. Trump lied about it.

Trump still controls his businesses and is using the power of the Presidency to promote his personal business interests and award himself no-bid contracts.

All of which is wildly corrupt. As is the GOP for enabling and excusing such corruption.

Law says Presidents can run their businesses while still in office.
Can a U.S. President Remain in Business Once in Office?

"The president can't have a conflict of interest," Trump recently told The New York Times. "In theory, I can be president of the United States and run my business 100 percent."
And he's absolutely right. According to the 1978 Ethics in Government Act, all high-ranking federal officials are required to disclose their financial holdings and recuse themselves from any government business in which they, their families or close associates have a financial interest. All federal officials, that is, except the president, the vice president, members of Congress and federal judges.

18 U.S. Code § 202 - Definitions

(c)
Except as otherwise provided in such sections, the terms “officer” and “employee” in sections 203, 205, 207 through 209, and 218 of this title shall not include the President, the Vice President, a Member of Congress, or a Federal judge.

How odd..I don't recall making that assertion....were i asked I'd call it par for the Trump course and move on..given all that's out there..i don't even think Trump is the most important thing going on..just one of the loudest.

But that is the topic of this thread, right?

Trump and Mulvaney are the ones that said that there were other sites that were looked at. But.............when reporters asked if they could see the report that said Doral was better than the other places, they were told they could not see them.

Everyone surprised about that, please raise your right hoof!

Taxpayers wouldn't just have had to cover the costs of the summitry, but the millions, or even tens of millions, in upgrades to Doral, to prepare the site for the summit. The "The Donald" could have gone bragging about his beautiful extra-hyper-duper-secure site - all at the taxpayers' expense.

Yep, after "only the best of people" - which never, ever ceases to be funny - come "only the best of places". Not sure yet the latter will lend itself to become a running joke as much as the former did.

You know, Camp David worked pretty well for the last summit that was held here back in 2012. And, it won't cost the taxpayers any extra, as it is a government owned facility.

That's an age-old tactic.

"Here are our finalists. We have this expensive cultivated resort, or we have this swamp with alligators in it, or then again we have this open field downwind from a hog farm. I dunno, they look pretty much alike to me, what do you think?"

He gives his salary away but he wants to make money from a G7 meeting..
It's ridiculous.
He probably just wanted to do it for his ego, so he could around bragging that he owned the joint.
But dont let me stop the inability to apply reason to this.

Except he said he was doing it at no cost to the taxpayer.

Quit watching CNN and PMSNBC and you might learn something.

Maybe you should pay more attention.

Exactly. Trump didn't say anything about doing it for free until AFTER he got a whole bunch of flack from both sides.

And, to tell you the truth, there is no way in hell he's gonna simply give away a weeks worth of free rooms, at minimum, he's going to at least charge for cost, and that is still gonna cost a whole bunch of money.

He was doing it for free, and he really does not need the name recognition, really. Check your ego and the way you look at him-try being fair for once in your life.

The place is close to an international airport, reducing transportation, traffic, and security considerations.

It has plenty of room for the world leaders and their large entorages.

Site security has already been assessed and the various country services would be able to make proper plans.

It has a well=trained, world class staff that is ideal for showing the best the country has to the rest of the world.

Even the press corps would have nearby facilities for its use.

I used to think that Trumpies were cultists. Just....abandoning their values and beliefs to embracing whatever they were told by Glorious Leader.

But then I realized that Trump didn't change the Republican party. He revealed it.

Trump didn't invent these talking points. These have been poor white people's 'greatest hits*' for a very long time. And Republicans NEVER believed in accountability, meritocracy, or family values, or fiscal responsibility, or 'compassionate conservatism, or the separation of powers, government transparency, or any of that inane babble.

Trump merely removed the varnish thin layer of lip service that the GOP gave empty talking points that they never believed. The only real values of conservatives? Tax cuts for the wealthy and fucking with women's reproduction.

Everything else is noise.
