Tree of Life Synagogue Murderer Guilty on All Counts

‘Defense attorney Elisa Long…claimed the shooter carried out the attack because he didn't want more refugees and immigrants to come to the U.S., reasoning that she herself called "nonsensical and irrational," the AP reported.’ ibid

He didn’t want “more refugees and immigrants to come to the U.S.”

Interesting, we’ve been hearing a lot about that since January 20, 2017, at Noon.

Because, he said, they were damaging the environment...you left out that part....I wonder why?

He is an eco-fascist, one of yours...

Except in THIS case, there’s no question that the monster doesn’t deserve to live.
That's true in MANY cases. Are we making a big deal about this one case because the victim is a "minority"?

ALL violent first degree murderers should get the death penalty -- and not 20 years after the fact

Charles Manson shouldn't have been allowed life either

The electric chair would be most appropriate for this doofus. He has no redeeming social value whatsoever.

He sat mute during the whole trial, didn't offer any reasons, alibis , excuses or apologies for what he did. Didn't even testify.

Little point in his continuing with life.

If he would have got on the stand with a prison style swastika tattooed on his forehead and testified he did the deed to avenge the death of Jesus H. Christ, he would have shown his ignorance, but at least gave everyone some idea of why he did what he did.

I think I understand what she means. It isn't covered 24/7 on all networks the way it would be if it were a "white racist" who murdered a black man.

This story is kind of under the radar

Fuck that. Execute that bastard.

I have to confess that if it happens, there's probably a demonic part of me that would find it hard to give a fuck about the murderer.

But capital punishment is a system that has real consequences. It's cruel, and its cruelty impacts people beyond the killer. Moreover, I think on some level, it reinforces violence as a solution to problems or an appropriate response in dealing with people we're angry with.

Putting him in prison would be an appropriate punishment, but like I said, this guy is so heinous I can understand if people want his us strung up in a tree. I guess I just don't think it makes us a better society is all I'm sayin.

I just don't see how us sanctioning cruelty helps us as a society. Electrocution is barbaric.

No. Shooting up a synagogue and slaughtering innocent people because you don't care for their religion is barbaric.

Sitting someone down in the electric chair shows that society won't put up with that shit.

Further, the fact that this doofus didn't even say a syllable in his own defense tells me that he's too much of a danger to allow to continue to live. Would you feel safe if a friend or relative was serving time with this guy? Especially if they were only doing a stretch for car theft or mattress tag ripping?

Remember also, there has never been a breachproof prison built, and never will be. He's still a danger to the community even if he is in the joint

Of course it's barbaric, but how does barbaric punishment help anyone?

Nah, it makes us just as fucked up as the mass murderer.

Put him in ADX or some other super max and he's not going to escape. Nobody's ever escaped from that place. If he tries and the tower guards have an open shot, fuck yeah, take him out. But otherwise, let him spent his life in solitude thinking every waking minute about what he's done, thinking about the life he gave up. That's real punishment.

Prison is a dangerous place even with people who've killed far fewer than this guy.

Especially if they were only doing a stretch for car theft or mattress tag ripping?

Someone stealing a car isn't going to do time in a max. I'd honestly be far more worried about doing time in Cook Co jail or some state penitentiary than I would having a relative in a fed super max.

Nah, stick him in a fed prison and he's done. Besides he's a pussy. He gunned people down while they were praying. It's not like he's a career criminal. He's just some white bitch with a mid-life crisis and decided he wanted to exorcise his demons by playing fake Nazi. Isolation will be for *his* safety, not only the prison population's.

It's not even that. Justice demands that a person who steals a life -- let alone seven -- forfeits his own life

The Aryan Brotherhood is considered to be hot shit at Club Fed. The Biden DOJ has declared than antisemitism is a major threat.

If Mr. Bowers gets a swastika tattooed on his forehead and his head shaved, why wouldn't they welcome him with open arms when he rolls up on the yard?

Two things:

1. If it were up to me, he'd be mostly in solitary. I don't believe in total solitary but significant solitary to avoid those kinds of associations.

2. There's a lot of room for prison reform. We won't reform it of course b/c our prisons are for showing the condemned how mad we are at them. We could clean up a lot of that gang-banging shit if we'd change how we deal with prisoners.

Solitary confinement is 3 times as expensive as ordinary confinement, and there is where the problem lies.

No one wants to spend the kind of moolah to build individual cells for millions of people- in fact, penitentiaries which were built for individually occupied cells get double and triple bunked.

Further, keeping people in their cells all day requires a lot more staff, and all those guys guys paid. Bringing chow to the cells, escorting prisoners for individual showers, etc., is a lot more labor intensive.

Your argument sounds good, but I still disagree. We should the death penalty the mandatory sentence for first degree murder.

But doesn't the death penalty also incur a lot of extra costs? The litigation alone makes it cost-prohibitive on a large scale.
