..More Government Officials Behaving Badly: Ethics Scandal at Treasury

Ticker on Facebook!

It's the summer of scandals and the latest to surface is at the U.S. Treasury Department. Recently published documents show that some employees have been abusing their government responsibilities.

A handful of officials who worked for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (formerly the Office of Thrift Supervision) were caught "soliciting prostitutes, breaking conflict-of-interest rules and accepting gifts from corporate executives, according to the findings of official government investigations," reported The Hill's Managing Editor Bob Cusack on Monday.

It is very rare for these types of personnel issues to be released publicly. But documents highlighting the unethical behavior were released under the Freedom of Information Act request and published on governmentattic.org. All names involved in the misconduct were redacted.

The records show a member of OTS "misused" government resources to troll the web for sex and solicited prostitutes using Craigslist.

"Clearly, I think a lot of people would expect more from their government than surfing the web for prostitutes, especially on the government's dime," says Cusack in the accompanying video.

Perhaps more galling is another employee who accepted golf fees and meals from the same bank executives he or she was supposed to be regulating. This person did receive ethics training but was under the impression that playing golf with bank employees was acceptable, according to Cusack.

These instances of unethical behavior are "serious breaches of Treasury policy" says Cusack. But he does not believe it is a systemic problem at the government agency.

This misconduct follows the scandals involving the Government Service Administration spending lavishly at a Las Vegas convention and members of the Secret Service paying for prostitutes overseas.

While the Treasury scandal may not be as sordid as the other scandals, it will still be embarrassing for President Obama and his administration -- especially as the president focuses on his reelection campaign, adds Cusack.

When government gets so big as to consider themselves 'essential', they start believing that they can do whatever they damned well please. Both sides are guilty of this, that's why we need a smaller government!

[From the "Anything Goes Files" of the Obama Administration another Secret Service style game of "Pass The Hooker" emerges. I wonder whether it went anything like the process that occurred when Obama decided to take a drag out of turn while huddled with the 'ChoomGang', having to yell "Interception' first]

"A freedom of information request revealed several incidents of major ethical breaches at the Department of Treasury, involving the solicitation of prostitutes using a government resources as well conflict of interest concerns.

This is the latest in a string of embarrassments and scandals for the Obama administration; the staffers involved have not been prosecuted because they didn’t include “underage prostitutes or human trafficking.”

From CBN News:

The U.S. Attorney’s office in D.C. decided not to prosecute the federal worker, who had worked for the government for 36 years, even though the acts violated rules against “disgraceful conduct….” The Treasury Department argues the violations were isolated incidents and not indicative of the department’s culture as a whole. Even so, this is the latest department under the Obama Administration to be at the center of an investigation."

Craigs List??

There are good drug stories out there, but like the Boy Scout helping the 80 year old lady with her walker across a busy city intersection, you never hear about them. The six year old with a 102 degree fever who had to drag himself on the floor to the bathroom for a day and a half who suddenly began behaving as if nothing had ever happened after receiving the appropriate antibiotic, the asthmatic who considered himself on his last legs until his doctor gave him a new drug called 'Daliresp' who now can breathe well enough to carry on his daily functions almost normally, the 22 year old female in ovarian shutdown who begins menstruating again after receiving enormous doses of estrogen and progesterone from her gynecologist.

LSD blocks the sensory input to the brain from the body's sensory apparatus, you know, sight, sound, touch, feel, balance, temperature, smell and prevents the organism from forming a realistic interpretation of his environment. Thats why a couple of its users in the early days assumed they could sit down in front of an approaching eighteen wheeler in the middle of a busy six lane and nothing would happen. Stupid usually ends up going splat! And thats what happened. Tough! Human hamburg going somewhere to be made.

10-4 on the sensory input blockage. I used to consider it a vacay.:eusa_whistle:

First the GSA spends almost a million dollars partying in Vegas, then we find out Secret Service agents can't keep their pants on while on the job, now Treasury officials can't keep their pants on either.

You have to admit, the Democrats sure know how to have FUN with taxpayer's money!

I miss the "good old days", when it was Bill Clinton alone in the oval office, having oral sex with interns and raping secretaries.

It was much more "cost efficient" than these Las Vegas trips and secret service hooker escapades.
