The problem with longing for a return to a 'golden age' is that golden ages don't actually exist.
If anyone claims that anytime in the past was superior to the world today, I have only one word ...
dentistry.
Many evangelicals have been openly advocating and actively usurping positions of authority in government for decades with the expressed intent to change laws, dictate national policy, harass gays and take over the world for Jesus of course, because they just love him to death,.How is someone supposed to pay no attention to that?
Morals are a standard agreed upon. Morals are only as relevant as what the public agrees they are. If you think it shows that you are moral because you get married before having sex then you are really just a prude.
Actually, prostitution thrived more in the 19th century than it does now:
In the 19th century, parlor house brothels catered to upper class clientele, while bawdy houses catered to the lower class. At concert saloons, men could eat, listen to music, watch a fight, or pay women for sex. Over 200 brothels existed in lower Manhattan. Prostitution was illegal under the vagrancy laws, but was not well-enforced by police and city officials, who were bribed by brothel owners and madams. Attempts to regulate prostitution were struck down on the grounds that regulation would be counter to the public good. Seventy-five percent of New York men had some type of sexually transmitted disease.[2]
The gold rush profits of the 1840s to 1900 attracted gambling, crime, saloons, and prostitution to the mining towns of the wild west. A brothel-keeper, Julia Bulette, who was active in the mining town of Virginia City, Nevada, was murdered in 1867. Thirty years before, in 1836, the New York City courtesan Helen Jewett was murdered, by one of her customers gaining prostitution considerable attention. The Lorette Ordinance of 1857 prohibited prostitution on the first floor of buildings in New Orleans.[3]Nevertheless, prostitution continued to grow rapidly in the U.S., becoming a $6.3 million business in 1858, more than the shipping and brewing industries combined..
Actually it does.Marking my posts as "funny" really doesn't accomplish anything!!! If you have something to say, say it!!! How can we have a discussion when you are afraid to speak your mind!!!
It indicates to others that your posts are as wrong as they are ridiculous – completely devoid of merit.
In this case your thread premise fails as a confusion of correlation and causation fallacy: your incorrect perception that America having become ‘godless’ is the cause of various ‘social ills’ – when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.
Neither Christians in particular nor theists in general have a ‘monopoly’ on morality – those free from religion are just as moral, if not more so.
Drug abuse, abortion, and prostitution have always existed – even in times of authoritarian piety and in places with authoritarian Christian regimes.
The actual threat to America is this sort of rightwing reactionaryism and religious authoritarianism.
I'm not seeing a lot of religious authoritarianism in the US these days ... Thank G-d

It's not the sin itself but the endorsement of sin that degrades a society completely.
Now we think it's all just fine, no matter what terrible consequences result. Single parenthood, divorce, even pornography and certainly abortion are having horrible effects. But oh well, "you do you", and everyone shrugs. THAT is the problem. It's not that people sin despite their best intentions and that they know it's wrong. Again it's the ENDORSEMENT of sin.

and mass shootings. Give me a clue, did you vote for Trump.
When most people prayed daily, did their best to obey the Ten Commandments, and went to church on Sunday, we did not have all these problems!!!
I'm old enough to remember when everyone had lots of kids!!! There were kids everywhere up and down the street!!! Now, you hardly ever see kids!!! Abortion and birth control has ruined our families and ruined our country!!!

Yes I did. What part of MI do you live in, since I answered your question. Dearborn? Metro Detroit?
Back then every man had a job that paid enough to raise a family. GM was the largest employer in America. Today Walmart is.And people prayed more, and gave more to charity, and went to church, and there weren't so many women having abortions and giving birth out of wedlock!!!

Then you sure picked a God awful role model.

I regularly advocate to marry a big-breasted blonde ... my invocations have significantly better odds of coming true than theirs.
In this life, you don't fear who wants to do you harm. You fear who CAN do you harm.
If you think evangelicals will ever wield power in this country outside of their very small group of followers,. then you haven't been paying attention to American History.
We don't like being told what to do, even by those claiming to represent G-d.
How big a hole is god-sized? Like dime? A quarter?
