  • Myth - Health care reform will reduce the deficit.
  • Fact - Health care reform will increase the deficit.

  • Myth - The US health care system is a free market.
  • Fact - The government controls about half of the health care market.

  • Myth - Medicare spending increases life expectancy. Reductions in Medicare spending therefore decrease life expectancy.
  • Fact - Increases in life expectancy are due to increased access to health care.

Unless of course it is the right wing version of health care reform?

"Fact - Increases in life expectancy are due to increased access to health care."
Well if no one pays for it how do you have increased access to health care?

Private insurance rationed healthcare for my baby. Apparently they decided my coverage wasn't good enough for the "better" waterproof cast. I had to pay for the upgrade out of pocket. Can't wait till it comes time for me to get a heart valve to see if I get the 2020 technology one or the 1996 left over lol.

We Have to cut spending. Don't you understand that. No one will have Health Care if the economy fails. This recession is not over. This is just a bubble created by tarp and the printing of dollars. We can't afford a new health care.
What is the life expectancy of one, who is starving to death, because the currency is worthless?
We don't need this.

and who says no one will be paying for it?

The u.s is supposed to be a laissez- faire, enough said.
Not quite Lassaiez Faire. That was the error of the Guilded Age. There must be some very broad guardrails to prevent abuse of power and position, allowing everyone to have a chance to compete and not congeal too much power in one set of hands. Anti-Monopoly/Trust legislation I have very little problem with.

Of course, what the left doesn't realize is that we now have over-corrected and need to swing back to a more balanced middle ground.

How do you expect to get increased access to health care once the government starts saying you can't have it because it is too expensive?

Honestly, what is all the fuss about? Obamacare will solve all our medical access problems. Stop bitching.

Nothing the government runs makes a profit.
Everything they manage operates at a loss.
:clap2:

govt programs make lots of profits for private companies.

Every dollar spent on medicare goes right into pharma and the health care industries pockets.
Every dollar spent on food stamps goes right into the grocery industrys pocket, etc.

And private insurance will just give you a policy if you cannot afford one?

Sheesh.

Do you deserve one if you can't? If so, why does an insurance company owe you coverage? Because it's 'not nice'?

You forgot...

Fact : Health care will become unaffordable to everyone if left alone as premiums go through the roof.

Myth : If we do nothing it will correct itself

See my above post.

My PRIVATE insurance company is already deciding my coverage was only good for a 1960s technology cast not a new one.

Oh, and the government tries not to turn a profit but to break even. If the post office was making billions they would lower the cost of stamps. If UPS was making billions their stock prices go up. Government programs do not have the fear of loss, that is a problem with them.

Private insurance owes you nothing. Neither do I.

SO in that world if you show up at the hospital with a gunshot wound or other emergency and cant pay your butt gets pushed out to the street.

Anything else is denying the socialist head in the sand nature of the old 1950s era health care model we are suffering through. This isnt your great grandfather's medical treatment anymore. The stuff works and it is expensive.

Every so often I read an article about a malaria drug or something which was made cheaper so those in poor parts of the world can afford it.

I am in fear of the day I am on a hospital bed and can not afford the million dollar treatment which will extend my life. At least a decade down the road it might be cheaper I suppose.

Nope, but if I can I can get increased access to health care. Even poor people can get increased access in this country by appealing for money, or simply applying to the hospital for aid. If the government takes over health care no one will get the access unless they can go to another country. The old system may not be perfect, but it gives everyone a chance. In the UK, everyone gets screwed.

The major reason health care is currently unaffordable is that most people do not pay for it directly. How is increasing the share the government pays going to fix that?
