The Taliban have done it again: implementing a nearly complete ban against cultivation of opium poppy

Afghanistan's most important agricultural product repeating their similarly successful 2000-2001 prohibition on the crop. But the temptation to view the current ban in an overly positive light as an important global counter-narcotics victory must be avoided.

This is particularly true given the state of Afghanistan's economy and the country's humanitarian situation.

Indeed, the ban imposes huge economic and humanitarian costs on Afghans and it is likely to further stimulate an outflow of refugees. It may even result in internal challenges for the Taliban itself. And, in the long run, it will not have lasting counter-narcotics benefits within Afghanistan or globally.

WTF?

It just proves we have not been serious on the war on drugs. We were not willing to chop a few hands off to win.

Of course it could be the neocon's wet dream, re-invade to reestablish opium production......Yeah, they are that messed-up.

The CIA is pissed!

Ya just gotta sneak in without being noticed

slave owners and homosexuals always fight against opium and cocaine, this prevents them from selling slave drugs - alcohol and psychedelics.

there were a few other economic reasons to fight, but 1 conspiracy theory was that "someone" (probably soros) was concerned that the taliban opium laws might disrupt their cash flow.......

kick starting opium production was tolerated if not encouraged by the coalition

Frankly cannot easily understand the alleged new ruling situation .
The CIA makes so much of its money from drugs .Anywhere and everywhere , but this has been such a key and huge growing and distribution area
I just cannot believe that they would allow such a huge source to disappear without them finding ways to circumvent the official Taliban narrative .

What is not being disclosed ? Or , are other and synthetic drugs accounting for all of the "missing" Afghan revenue and much more?

The CIA will miss that crop.
Great. Now more of my taxes have to fund the next puppet regime prop up...
Well you are doing ok at the moment sending billions to a bunch of Nazis in Ukraine just to poke Russia in the eye while some of your vets sleep on the streets.

April 2022
Opium production saw a similar 95% decline from 6,200 tons produced in 2022 to 333 tons in 2023. The total 2023 opium harvest could be converted into 24-38 tons heroin of export quality (50 – 70% purity). In 2022 that amount was 350-580 tons.

Afghanistan. China came in with solar energy production. When the Americans ran away with their bombs and heroin. They say the сhinese are building housing for 30,000 poor people in Afghanistan.
For trillions of dollars of rare earth deposits in the Afghan mountains, the сhinese will certainly rebuild Afghanistan. Unless the Anglo-Saxon banksters get involved again.

In general, the Chinese Communist Party has a unique experience of lifting millions of people out of poverty. 800 million Chinese have been lifted out of extreme poverty.

The War on Drugs is inherently illegal.
The authority for law comes from when you defend the rights of individuals.
The war on Drugs defends no one, but instead is a draconian dictate.
