The purpose of religion is to re-build one's relationship with God Almighty the Creator, a relationship we lost when we came to this world.
This is why there has been 124 000 prophets among whom Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family, the best of all prophets and the last of them all. After Muhammad and his Companions, the saints of Islam kept coming on earth at each century, and so it shall be until the end of time.
Like the prophets, the saints of Islam fly in the air, walk on water, visit the heavens as they wish, say "be" to anything and it will be, etc...
They teach their followers how to re-build their relationship with God The Creator. Among them is Ahmad Chichti, or Fudhayl Iyadh, or Ibn Atallah, or Zarruq; you find pages about them easily on Wikipedia.
