Yum. Yum. Only problem, won’t be ready for the field until 2023. And they won’t replace current Meals Rejected by the Enemy.

A sample menu for the ration includes the following, according to a May 25 Army press release:

  • Tart cherry nut bar.

  • Cheddar cheese bar.

  • Mocha dessert bar.

  • Vacuum-dried strawberries.

  • Trail mix.

  • Korean barbeque stir fry packet.

  • Four teeny tiny spinach quiches.

  • Six little pieces of French toast.

  • And a banana that was “vacuum microwave dried” so it’s now about a third of its original size.
Just can’t wait. More @ Finally, A Fancy (And Compact) MRE For The Grunt Who Prefers Only The Finest Vacuum-Sealed Rations

Never had a MRE I didn't like. But in the USAF, we didn't eat that many and when we ate them, it wasn't for more than a few days. As long as I had Tabasco sauce handy, the entre was great.

When they stopped putting the little Tabasco bottles in the MREs in the First Gulf War, our guys called back in protest. We sent them all the Tabasco they needed and enough more to trade.

I heard it was damn close to a mutiny in the Army when they dropped the little Tabasco bottles out of the MREs in the First Gulf War. Any validity to that rumor?
