There has been much discussion on same sex marriage and it really does look like the SCOTUS is going to make a decision on this at last. In thinking on this, there has been a tremendous change in attitude in the country in just a couple of decades. What is truly amazing is that the change did not arise from riots, barricades, threats of violence or confrontations. It came from dressing up for gay pride parades, sit coms, female impersonator contests and people just coming out of the closet.
This really has to be the single most non-violent revolution in the history of humanity. It was so non-violent, no one even noticed it was happening. I don't know if there was a plan for this, but if so it was pure genius. At the very least, it is a testament to the power of a group who just stands up to be heard and doesn't stop talking until they are. It is awe inspiring.
However, I also think the winners in this revolution need to express a heart felt thanks to the one group which advanced their cause more than any other. The Westboro Baptist Church. No other group put forth the basic argument against SSM with such clarity and sharp relief, and made people who would otherwise have been more vocal in opposition scramble away for fear of being associated with them. Well done, WBC. In your own way, you really helped us move forward.
