Santana and Rob Thomas's Smooth. It's twenty years old, released in 1999. Santana's attempted return to radio in 1997 was soon dubbed a folly in record label circles and a year latter still hadn't had a potential hit single. Multiple collaborations were sought after and attempted till finally Rob Thomas (Matchbook Twenty) was given the opportunity to rewrite the lyrics. A demo was recorded and Santana turned it down three times before a trusted friend told him it would be a hit and asked him to do it.
At first Rob was only writing the lyrics but was eventually asked to sing the lead which he gladly accepted. After some more working out the music an lyrics a not to bad, not to great song came into existence according to both Rob and Carlos.
The song became a smash hit and stayed on top of the charts for three months, Santana won eight Grammys, Rob suddenly was wanted by major recording stars all over the genres to write and co-write songs.
Rob Thomas's wife Marisol Maldonado is in the video, first in the car driving by where he stops and stares at her and later the one dancing in the skimpy blue top.

And he had never won any in the 30+ years before that.

Hard to believe. Carlos and his band had released plenty of Grammy winning quality music before this. That's why I believe the Grammy Awards are a joke, for the most part.
