Apparently they had little choice. It was either a prison ship bound for Australia for petty theft after the British Monarchy foreclosed on their property or a better life in the New World and a better life it was. After a thousand years of tyrannical rule the British people were too ignorant or too beaten down to overthrow their oppressors. Even after Cromwell's revolution and a democrat government was in reach the chicken shit Brits decided to recall a freaking teenager who was exiled in France to rule the empire. After most monarchies were abolished in the civilized world by the turn of the 20th century the Brits were still paying homage to a degenerate ruling class that has no claim to power except by blood. It took a revolution and a single summer of freed former British subjects to create the greatest document the civilized world had ever seen, the U.S. Constitution.
