With the GOP falling apart and fragmented, Mitch McConnell, the Senate minority leader and Boehner whine for their party to unite and do exactly what Obama wants to do, raise the debt ceiling. The GOP is crushed like a cream puff and will face angry voters in the next election for backing down to Obama.

McConnell said the economic consequences of a default would give President Obama an opportunity to blame the GOP for the country’s economic straits. “Look, he owns the economy,” McConnell said. “He’s been in office for three years. We refuse to let him entice him into co-ownership of a bad economy.”

McConnell said that at this point the GOP had two choices: Either make a bad deal — from their perspective — with Obama or take the country into default, which, McConnell suggested would do even more damage to the party. He compared the situation to 1995, when the GOP forced a government shutdown.

“We know that’s going to happen. Just like we knew shutting down the government in 1995 was not going to work for us,” he said. “It helped Bill Clinton get reelected. I refuse to help Barack Obama get reelected.”

The tea party has the GOP divided and running scared, as Boehner reiterated that nothing Obama had suggested could win approval in the House, which has a significant bloc of tea party conservatives who don’t want to raise the debt limit under any circumstances and may be willing to gamble with the consequences of a default, along with bands of other conservatives who will accede to an increase only if it is accompanied by massive spending cuts. Don't they know Democrats can control the outcome?

The reality is that Mr. Obama is trying to present Republicans with a Hobson's choice: Either repudiate their campaign pledge by raising taxes, or take the blame for any economic turmoil and government shutdown as the U.S. nears a debt default, which will kill the GOP once and for all.

HOW ABOUT THOSE DEMOCRAT SCARE TATICS HITTING THE GOP IN THE FACE??

THE PARTY OF NO IS ABOUT TO CAVE IN AND SAY YES!!

Nothing like rooting AGAISNT the American people for THE PARTY..

Obamabots have got to be some of the stupidest people to EVER vote.

Given the choices, my money is on the GOP letting us default.

Literally, that's where my money is.

Where were you whining about DEFAULT when the Obama and Democarts ran up TWO TRILLION in dept in just a little over two years.??

It's good you still have money to bet..

Running up debt is not an issue, and certainly not an issue during a recession. Defaulting on the debt, THAT is an issue.

Not a big fan of the GOP, but I still think it is more likely than not they will make gains in 2012. These kinds of statements predicting the doom of the GOP were common in 2008 as well, and in 2010 we saw them predicting the demise of the Dems. Bunch of nonsense, really.

They will make huge gains. They're doing the right thing with the budget, Obama's behaving like a child and personally, it looks like he's headed toward a meltdown. Seriously.

No shit... common liberal logic seems to be that when you are mired in debt, you just need more debt?

I don't know that it will be as big as 2010 for the GOP, but I do think the mood of the country is still leaning in their favor. Specific happenings in DC right now won't likely be on the radar come election time. Wouldn't surprise me to see the GOP take the Senate. I do think they'll have a hard time beating Obama for the Presidency, though.

Oh I think Obama's toast unless the GOP puts up another McCain. Obama has been abysmal.

I don't know about that.
Obama has done almost the exact opposite of what he campaigned on.
The GOP has an overflowing arsenal of "ammunition" to use against.

McConnell is willing to deal, but he is in the Senate. Cantor and Bohener have made clear that they have to deal with the sentiment of the house.

Anyway, as soon as Obama deals with the House's issues, the resolution will pass like flax through a goose. The Senate is on board with whatever.

But legislation has to pass through both houses. And until Obama is willing to deal, that can't happen.

Seems like the American people have the GOP running scared, all the seniors, veterans, disabled, social security, etc. are going to want their August checks, and speaking of stupid, that is the fragmented GOP who is about to disappear from the radar screen. LMAO!! When it comes to paying the bills, all those Americans including republicans will be voting Democrat!! HAHAHAHA!!!!!
