One of the ethnonyms of the Germans is the Varagers(Rus). The root "var" is easy to recover from the Old Bulgarian (Slavic) language - vor - varuga - it means a thief, as well as a criminal authority, the head of an organized criminal group.

Thieves have never been fighters. This was the name of the robbers and thieves who hid in the forests and swamps, and periodically flew into the villages. Under the name "Slavs" they were described by Mauritius the strategist.
