Americans do not elect popes although recent presidents decided they were spiritual leaders. If Roman Catholic popes lied as often as Democrat presidents lie American Socialists would nuke Vatican City. Judi McLeod nails Americas current liar in chief cum spiritual leader:

Presidents longing to be seen as popes are easily exposed because there are so few presidents. Congress is another matter.
Two Roman Catholic priests were elected to Congress. Robert Drinan (1920 - 2007) and Robert Cornell (1919 - 2010). A few shepherds from other Christian denominations also made it to Congress. My point: American voters seldom elect the real deal. And Im fairly certain they never elect members of Congress so they can act like priests the minute they get elected. The thing I fear is that they are positioning themselves so they can perform the last rites over a dead America. Listen to some of the things those characters say and you will see what I mean.
The question is: Why do they all want to be seen as moral compasses? Answer: Connecting themselves to divinity is the best way to hide what they really are.
