Souter considered resigning after Bush v. Gore, book says

WASHINGTON (AP) - Justice David Souter contemplated resigning from the Supreme Court because he was so upset by the decision that sealed the 2000 presidential election for George W. Bush, a new book says.

Souter, one of the four dissenting justices in the case, believed his five colleagues in the majority acted in a "crudely partisan" manner in siding with Bush to shut down the recount of votes in Florida in December 2000, author Jeffrey Toobin writes in "The Nine, Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court." A day after the decision in Bush v. Gore, Vice President Al Gore formally conceded the election.

Are you gonna cry now?

No, but America should... George W. Bush will go down as the worst president in our nations history...

Look you idiot, after the recount was stopped by the court, there were several agencies that came in and did a complete recount of the whole state, not just the ones where Gore wanted. They found that George Bush had won. Even in the counties where Gore wanted recounts, they found that Bush had won.

So stop your damn crying twit!

Oh really? Just WHAT was "Shrubbie" competent at?
This isn't nearly as much about him as the fact that there have been WAY worse presidents than him.

To repeat, yet again, history didn't start the day you were born.

I guess he won't admit to Jimmie Carter.....I bet Carter was Pres. after he was born...but couldn't swear to it.

He didn't steal any elections. God you people are pathetic.

Well, he didn't personally, but his people did. What is pathetic is that the rabid right are always screaming about life, liberty and the American way...unless it's their guy taking those things away, then somehow it is for everybody's own good. Go figure..

You would be wrong again, Grump. No evidence to support such tripe, except in the liberal minds.

Google "voter suppression Republican Party."

Gore's legal advisor, Ron Klain, urged him to continue fighting, but he accepted this decision as final - "for the sake of unity". Now, stop with the whining that the election was stolen.

Well that means Bush must have been competent at something...

Did he keep us safe...FAIL

Did he respond when Americans faced disaster...FAIL

Did he protect our environment...FAIL

Did he create jobs...FAIL

Did he reduce our dependency on Arab oil...FAIL

Did he create an energy policy...FAIL

Did he improve our alliances with other nations...FAIL

Did he improve America's image around the world...FAIL

Did he reform health care...FAIL

Did he pass immigration reform...FAIL

Did kill more than a hundred thousand human beings...PASS

FINALLY...something Bush was competent at!

No....it means that his level of incompetence didn't sink to the level of others, especially the two I mentioned.

BTW, LBJ was also responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands, if not into the millions, along with the 58,000+ American boys KIA in 'Nam.

Vietnam was LBJ's tragic mistake...and it has come to define a presidency that would have been deemed successful and competent otherwise...

It's ironic that the "liberal bias" media took down the most liberal president in the last 65 years...

Medicare/Medicaid and the fool war on poverty were a couple other of thoser "tragic mistakes".

Face it, man, LBJ was a would-be dictator.

I'm a JFK man, I never cared much for LBJ and I was against the Vietnam War...

I'd hate to see what would have happened to the greatest generation without Medicare. But as I've said before; right wing solutions are fucking great, if we could just make people evaporate...

Poverty_59_to_05.png

The right-wing "solutions" are no more than polished leftist big gubmint turds.

According to your graph the poverty rate hasn't changed significantly, even though over $7 trillion has been thrown at the problem....Is that suppose to be some kind of evidence of success?

He was unaware of the Tea Protestors.
Then 3 weeks later when he addressed the tea party protests--it was apparent that-he was unaware of what the Tea Party protests were about. (he went into a speech about health care aka more massive Government spending.)
