The VA is a benefit for veterans that served, some under extremely life threatening conditions and many incurred injuries, both physical and mental, that they would not have received in the civilian world. I do not consider the VA socialist in nature.

Medicaid and Schip are socialist giveaway programs.

I do agree that Medicare is not a self sustaining program, but what government program is?

Making it legal for health insurance companies to compete across state lines would substantially lower the cost IMHO.

Reason #3. Most all medical research and development is done by American companies. Most of the latest medical procedures, medical equipment and medications are developed in America. Other countries get the benefit of these advances without funding the research and development.

Once America has totally socialized health care, there will be no more incentive to develop new treatments, equipment and medications.
