Is this just desserts?

TRAVIS, N.Y. (WPIX) - A Staten Island teenager walking along a road in Travis suffered minor injuries after she fell into an uncovered sewer manhole, and now city officials and the girl's mother want to know why the open manhole was left unsupervised in the first place.

The incident unfolded as Alexa Longueria, 15, was walking on Victor Boulevard with a friend Thursday evening. Authorities claim the teen was sending a text, when she suddenly felt the ground give way beneath her feet.

After the fall - which was about four or five feet - the teen told reporters that a couple of apologetic DEP workers who witnessed the incident ran to her side and helped her crawl out of the hole.

Longeuria was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital where she was treated for scrapes on her arm and back. Her mother, Kim Longueria, said doctors are worried about possible spine damage and as a result Alexa will have to undergo a follow-up MRI in the coming week.

Kim Longueria was reportedly told by workers, who were working on a sewer line at the time, that they had left the open manhole for a short while as they went to get cones from the truck. Under department protocol, workers are supposed to block off construction areas to pedestrians or mark them with warning signs.

Contrary to what reports are claiming, the teen's mother said her daughter was not texting at the time of the incident.

And check out what the mother says -- that her daughter was not texting -- then this must mean that the daughter is just plain stupid. Because who would not notice a manhole in front of them when they are walking? or...How may of you have walked into a manhole? It's just one of those things that happens...

How long will it be before Nancy Pelosi falls into that same manhole?

Momma is obviously smelling huge law suite.

Daughter is obviously a few cans short of a six pack.

Dontcha know how that works?
If you are so damn stupid you can't pay attention when you are walking, it is the fault of some body else and they should be made to pay for your stupidity.

I ran into the back of a parked car when I was 13, in front of the boy I liked and their entire family.

They laughed their asses off too, and the boy I liked came to help me. So much for that opportunity.
