Tea party evolves, achieves state policy victories

ATLANTA (AP) — Tea party activists in Georgia helped kill a proposed sales tax increase that would have raised billions of dollars for transportation projects. In Pennsylvania, tea partyers pushed to have taxpayers send public school children to private schools. In Ohio, they drove a referendum to block state health insurance mandates.

These and other battles are evidence of the latest phase of the conservative movement, influencing state and local policy, perhaps more effectively than on a national level. Tea party organizers are refocusing, sometimes without the party label, to build broader support for their initiatives. The strategy has produced victories that activists say prove their staying power.

"I call it Tea Party 2.0," said Amy Kremer, a Delta flight attendant who leads Tea Party Express. The California-based group, co-founded by GOP strategist Sal Russo, claims it's the largest tea party political action committee.

In 2010, while most of the nation focused on the T.E.A. party national wins, little is said about all the state houses that were turned to a 'fiscally sound' party; where the real power resides in this country.

With that inclusion of Ryan on the national ticket, it is just another step in the right direction. However, as with last time, I hope we continue to take it to the left in the State Congresses and the Governorships.

Obama has shown us one thing of value. We can simply ignore the Courts and the national government in favor of our own beliefs.

you cannot stop me.

Why would I try... you are a whack job that has never stood for fiscal discipline or accountability, why would you start now.

if you are a tea party then you have a do not understand what is responsible, cause what would actually be responsible is this, make cuts to programs while raising programs. so with out any personal attack, explain to everyone how tax cuts pay for themselves.

Tax cuts can increase revenue, we witnessed this. They can also cause a revenue shortage. I should remind you there were revenue increases on the table. So your rhetoric falls short.

Now tell me how it is responsible to only target the right people to discriminate against.

Actaully if you look at all the times in history, unless you minus the regan years(he pretty much invented def. spending) the times when our country exp the biggest "booms" was when taxes were the most pregressive. and guess what big buz also flurished. Not to mention that right now we have some of the lowest tax rates ever in our country.

Just saying no to everything no matter how crucial is not a policy, it's a neurosis.
Saying no to failed ideology is not only sane, but good fiscal policy.

Ideologies have no place in the nuts and bolts world of state and local politics. Pushing the same hatred of the federal government into state and local governments and refusing to do what has to be done for no good reason is not making the case that the tea party is fit to govern responsibly at any level. Where does it stop? When does taxation become local enough to become acceptable?

yeah because when the tea party wins the people Of GA get fucked.

It makes you soo happy huh OP

The sales tax increase failed in most counties by a 70 to 30 margin. If it had passed the people of Ga would have been getting f..cked.

If it passed, GA's sale tax rate would be 5% which still puts them well below the national average.

Don't forget teabagger hero Cain wanted to implement his "9-9-9" plan which would put a federal 9% tax rate in effect on top of state and local taxes.

The baggers are just trying to screw over union workers and improving on the infrastructure by pretending they are for keeping taxes down.

You really are a dumbass. To start with, the Ga state sales tax is 4% We have what is called a local option sales tax in addition to the State sales tax. The sales tax in the county that I live in is 6% and would have increased to 7%.

The tea party supporters will be the first to bitch and moan about traffic and roads falling apart then say, "see the government doesn't work they can't even fix the roads."

I don't get it.

Why are rw's so against thinking for themselves while Libs demand the right to think for themselves?

Why do rw's blindly believe schlock like this? They just all line up, and blather on about how we can't afford to invest in our own country while they defend scum Mittens defending in other countries.

WHY IS THAT???

Roads are local For the federal portion we pay a tax. Dont bitch at us because you decide to spend it elsewhere and you get called on it.

But fixing our roads and our bridges is "socialism".

They are just plain STUPID and completely anti-American. They LOVE it that Mittens invest in other countries, foreign banks, but they're dead set against investing in the USA.
