Taxes have to go up

It never ceases to amaze me how many morons there are on this planet who do not understand the difference between 'tax rates' and 'tax revenue'.

Sadly, a number of them are elected officials.

I don't believe taxes need to go up nor do I believe that entitlements need to be cut. If we cannot balance the budget by :
1. Closing 95% of overseas military bases (only keep the essentials)
2. Eliminating all US Embassies (obsolete)
3. Eliminating all financial giveaways to foreign countries
4. Cutting the salaries of all government employees
5. Cutting the retiremnet of all government employees
6. Cutting the Medical insurance of all government employees
7. Slashing the budgets of all federal elected officials
8. All federal elected officials will be paid the Average wage of their constituency to be re-evaluated every election cycle.
9. 1 year for every citizen / business to pay all back taxes owed (penalty to be determined later or by someone else)
10. Tax Reform

If after all of these changes and the budget is not balanced, then I would be willing to discuss entitlements and military cuts. Not one second before.

Second is up.

No, Taxes do not have to go up... Reckless entitlement spending has to stop. You don't stimulate the economy by raising Taxes... You stimulate the economy by easing the burden on the job creators.

No, I'm beginning to think that we really need to let all the Bush tax rates expire regardless of deals. Those tax cuts took too many people out of the taxpayer pool. People who pay no taxes don't care if they're raised on others.

I'd rather they all go up..then accept a deal that keeps in place what the top "earners" (And many of them earn by sitting on their asses letting other people work for them).

A reorganization and redefinition of government is a great idea. I'd rally behind another continental congress.

The true 'rich' are all liberals with un-earned income.

47% of voters bought into that Romney bullshit.

But in fact, growth has always been higher when tax rates are higher. Fact.

Here's why: higher incomes far exceed the earner's spending needs. Thus the money sits and does nothing. So of some is taxed, and spent back into the economy, things get moving. It's called a "redistributive effect." Look into it, and not rightie-fear-mongering "Wealth Redistribution!!! Ahhh!!" and you'll begin to understand how modern economies function and grow.

Taxes don't have to go up, but since Obamination is going to let the Bush Tax Cuts expire on 1 Jan 13 then blame the GOP for middle class taxes going up....the GOP should let the asshole get his higher taxes on the so-called rich to avoid harming more people with higher taxes.

Democraps as usual are only playing games. They are holding the American public hostage with the Bush Tax Cuts and the Fiscal Cliff, so that they can get more money in tax revenue to blow on their supporters for the 2014 and 2016 elections.....they don't give a shit about this country.

When something is taxed, society gets less of it, and when something is subsidized, society gets more of it.

This is not rocket science.

I say ...let's go over the cliff...maybe the only chance to cut spending.

Fat people drink diet coke....so diet coke makes people fat.

You need do some more research to support this idea. Making things up about how the rich don't spend their money so taxing it helps the economy is baseless.

But I'm open minded.....show me some creditable research. I'll listen.

We've tried that for the past 10 years, and it hasn't created the jobs yet.

Interestingly enough, the presidency under Clinton had higher tax rates and the country was doing pretty good economically.

Yep, sure was, we had the high tech dot com bubble cooking right along, supported by the likes of Enron and creative legerdemain accounting systems that crashed in 2000, coupled with the housing bubble supported by a sham that crashed when the financial house of cards collapsed in 2007. Yep prosperity based on fraud, now thats what I call a robust economy.

No Democraps will only cut the DoD budget even more making this country more unsafe.

The DoD budget is 18% of the Federal Budget, but Democraps always want the DoD to take 50% of any cuts they agree on...meanwhile all the Entitlements keep piling up in the backyard until the house becomes a dump too.

The weekly idiot socialist Columbia professor on FOX News that got his PhD from a Cracker Jack box is on O'Reilly right now pushing the idea of taxing wealth.

So now the Feds will tax people's wealth, of course they promise it is only the "rich" right now and only 1%....but their ultimate plan is to do it to everyone at a higher rate like usual.

Of course, the dumbfuck couldn't explain how the Feds were going to measure a rich person's wealth....like his sword collection, his car collection, his art/furniture, his clothes, etc.....simply fucking insanity on display with these asswipes that should be locked in a rubber room without oxygen.

You didn't look up "redistributive effect????" Well knock me over with a feather. Whoda thunk a Rightie would just keep on drinkin' the koolaid, when the alternative would be a better undertanding of real reality.

Color me surprised. Hahahahahahaha

Simple Question: What is the higher priority....raise taxes or cut spending?

I must agree. It isn't that government needs fed more tax dollars. They don't.

And it isn't that the tax cuts created a drop in government revenues. They didn't. In fact we had record Federal tax revenues right before the credit crisis.

What has happened is that human nature unexpectedly reared its ugly head again. Those millions of middle income taxpayers who no longer pay taxes now no longer care about runaway entitlement spending or debt - because the other guy pays for it.

They had a taste, and now they likes themselves some gubmint dependency.

Who said I didn't?
Like I said there is no creditable research that proves this theory. Sure you can increase the general welfare for a short period of time but at the cost of a slowing economy. The lagging effect is a decrease of GDP which produces the same or lower tax revenue. I hear this all the time. But the data doesn't support it.

It is scary to me that someone thinks that government is more responsible with my money then I am.

Cut spending drastically - medicaid, medicare. Stop all aid to muslim countries. Implement tax reform. Cut government drastically - not the military. Reduce gov. employee salaries, and benefits. Confiscate all ill gotten gains from illegal aliens, and aution them off. It's all a pipe dream - no one has the balls to do anything meaningful. We won't even go over the fiscal cliff - they will postpone it.
