Bachmann: Improving economy 'won't take that long' - Forbes.com

NEWTON, Iowa -- Michele Bachmann declared Friday "it won't take that long" for her to start turning the ailing economy around as president as she competed against other GOP presidential rivals to build support ahead of a key GOP straw poll in Iowa next week.

Bachmann told reporters after a campaign event in Newton that the economy would start to improve almost immediately after she becomes president because she would immediately implement conservative economic policies to slash the nation's debt, rule out tax increases and cut regulations.

"It won't take that long if we send signals to the marketplace," she said, standing by an earlier comment that the improvement would begin within the first quarter.

Obama’s B-day gift: A stock market crash, Bachmann says | Iowa Caucuses

She continued “One thing you can’t do. You might think you can fool the people but you can’t fool the market place. So the market place said no dice. Isn’t it interesting that happened yesterday on President Obama’s birthday? So the birthday present he got was a huge drop of 512 points in the market.”

Wonder what it was when Bush got the gift? ............ five times?

That's right, Bachmann. You can't fool the market.

Well, confidence is what drives markets. Businesses and investors know that Obama's answer to every problem is "higher taxes", "more regulations", "more spending", "more borrowing", and "more government". That makes investors and businesses nervous and less confident in future prospects. So they put off hiring decisions. They delay expansion plans. They make do with what they have. The go into "defense mode".

I believe that once Obama is gone, much of that anxiety will dissipate and the economy will recover, but until then, we are facing very gloomy, dark days.
