One constructive way to address the rapidly growing border crisis would be to terminate the War on Drugs, which is completely and evidently counterproductive, and transfer the funding and federal drug agents to the Border Patrol.

Again, for those who didn't understand or who do not believe the War on Drugs is counterproductive, the simple fact is in spite of the mega-billions spent on this debacle since Ronald Reagan escalated it in 1982, drugs are more available now than they were then and they cost less. So how can terminating it produce a negative effect?

The way to deal with excessive recreational drug abuse is not through the use of force, such as SWAT raids and Draconian prison sentences, but through a well-designed and motivated program of public education, which is the way cigarette smoking was reduced by more than 70% without arresting anyone. (I quit my 35-year cigarette addiction because of public education.)

An effective anti-drug public education program would cost about 2% of the cost of the drug war. The balance of that money is desperately needed to adequately enforce our immigration laws.
