Stephen King Rant

Stephen King: Tax Me, for F@%&

I agree. Of course. Everybody knows that's why people bring links and share stories, but then if you don't say anything there will be an attack. So. I'm saying something.

Stephen King, living proof it doesn't take brains to get rich.

Riiiiiight...49 novels under his belt, hes received Bram Stoker Awards, World Fantasy Awards, British Fantasy Society Awards, his novella The Way Station was a Nebula Award novelette nominee, and in 2003, the National Book Foundation awarded him the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. He has also received awards for his contribution to literature for his whole career, such as the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement (2004), the Canadian Booksellers Association Lifetime Achievement Award (2007) and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America (2007).

But he's a moron.

Gotta love it.

An American Icon who's influence over the culture has been profound.

Stephen King: Tax Me, for F@%&

Cut a check and shut up, they said.

If you want to pay more, pay more, they said.

Tired of hearing about it, they said.

Tough shit for you guys, because I’m not tired of talking about it. I’ve known rich people, and why not, since I’m one of them? The majority would rather douse their dicks with lighter fluid, strike a match, and dance around singing “Disco Inferno” than pay one more cent in taxes to Uncle Sugar. It’s true that some rich folks put at least some of their tax savings into charitable contributions. My wife and I give away roughly $4 million a year to libraries, local fire departments that need updated lifesaving equipment (Jaws of Life tools are always a popular request), schools, and a scattering of organizations that underwrite the arts. Warren Buffett does the same; so does Bill Gates; so does Steven Spielberg; so do the Koch brothers; so did the late Steve Jobs. All fine as far as it goes, but it doesn’t go far enough.

What charitable 1 percenters can’t do is assume responsibility—America’s national responsibilities: the care of its sick and its poor, the education of its young, the repair of its failing infrastructure, the repayment of its staggering war debts. Charity from the rich can’t fix global warming or lower the price of gasoline by one single red penny. That kind of salvation does not come from Mark Zuckerberg or Steve Ballmer saying, “OK, I’ll write a $2 million bonus check to the IRS.” That annoying responsibility stuff comes from three words that are anathema to the Tea Partiers: United American citizenry.

yeah right ... Lets see YOU do what he has done. Much like our president, he rose from nothing to his phenomenal success. His father literally went out for cigs and never came back. (Makes on think of Joe Walsh or Noot Gingrich, doesn't it.)

Like his writing or not, he did it all himself. Again, like our president, he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He earned every cent.

As for the subject of the OP - Isn't it interesting that the pubs/rw's don't want the wealthiest to pay their fair share but they're very quick to tell others they should pay more than their fair share.

They want some of us to pay more so they can continue to protect the welfare millionaires/billionaires.

Where's all those jobs we've been promised since Ronnie RayGun was in office? When are the rw's going to get it through their heads that they've been had?

I read King's stuff almost religiously.
(hadn't heard of "Way Station", though......bookstore tomorrow :D )

Being a fan of his writing, I just HAD to read every page of the linked article.

When it was over and done, all I was LEFT with was his more-than-obvious hypocrisy.

He seemed to agree that he and his rich buds should pay more, but I didn't see him anteing up.

I'll still read his books.
His blogs? Not so much.

Having read every word, just like me - where is the hypocrisy? If I'm thinking of what you're talking about, that was honesty.

Ok, so he's an honest hypocrite.

He thinks the rich SHOULD pay more, but makes no offer to do so.

He also makes no recommendations of how to enact it.
Just a rich blowhard with no real ideas.

I'm glad that he's charitable with his earnings. That's exactly what the 'right' contends....that charity should be voluntary, not mandated.

Still left his rantings empty, without an offer to ante up.

The Bram Stoker award should be presented to the democrat socialist party for sucking the life out of the United States.

Of course he is not a moron. He is an expert in creative writing, horror novel writing, novel promotion, etc.

He certainly is no expert in tax policy, rather he is a moron in it.

It's yet another silly argument from authority, thus means close to nothing, except what a horror writer believes about his taxes.

Maybe next we'll hear what a chef thinks, too. :eusa_whistle:

Well Hell. Stevie can cut a big assed check and send it to the Govt anytime he wants too.

Nobody will stop him and believe me the Govt will take his money without even a thankyou.

You go Stevie.

Same here, as a fan, I felt a smidge insulted. Just not as big a fan as you.

he and his rich bros are saying tax us more and we will pay more.

The argument that they should just write an unrequested check to the government is a strawman and stupid.

Just like the new "outrage" over Scott Browns daughter is a strawman and stupid.

Scott Brown opposes ‘Obamacare’ policy that covers his daughter | The Raw Story

People follow the laws of the land. dont like the law...change it. Which Scott Brown is voting to do, and Stephen King is requesting ( two different laws mind you. )

yeah sure they'll pay more...their accountants will just find another write off for it..
and as if them paying more in taxes is going to help our Government STOP SPENDING or bring down OUR dept..

so again, IF Mr. King want to give more to the guberment, he can DONATE ALL his millions instead of trying to push taxes for everyone else.

Of course if we made it unprofitable for people to hire accountants to protect wealth by say.... lowering... the tax burden... I guess they'd pay their legal fair share too now wouldn't they?

Huh... fancy that. Think a flat tax on all sources of income and benefits should do the trick if set say at 10-15% with zero exemptions? I do.

Of course the federal spending problem would still have to be fixed. But that's just common sense talking.
