Meh he's pretty smart, but his brain wiring is a bit off, which is obvious in his handicap - (ALS being a mis-fire of glutamate, which basically is the biochemical signal the brain sends to the muscles.)

Personally I think all theoretical scientists and "idea people" need to have a little mis-wire here and there; without it they would be stuck in the linear box-like thinking of the masses. In general normal people don't think of new shit, even if said new shit would make their life better.
