Someplace with a Mountain (2010) - IMDb

Watched this documentary last night. It was heart rending to watch these people learn that their home will soon disappear. The ocean has risen five inches in five years and the salt water is killing their crops and shrinking the island. They're hoping to relocate to Yap but lack funding and the hep they need to physically do it. Four thousand people, children, animals - all will slowing sink beneath the rising sea.

The documentary in on the Documentary channel and well worth watching.

Below is a link to the petition to the US government to help them relocate while they still have time. It seems only fair that since the US is the world's biggest polluter (yeah, China is catching up, especially since we're sending them our soft coal that is illegal to burn here) ... The US should help these people find a new home.

You're right. I really do hate that these people are losing their home because some people think they have the right to use more than their fair share of the earth's resources.

[off topic comment: years ago an offender who had absconded from our jurisdiction ended up on the Island of Yap. I approached the Chief and volunteered to go to Yap and apprehend the miscreant, showing him a copy of the Bench Warrant.

In my research I learned the Island of Yap has an average spring and summer temperature of 84 degrees, a fall and winter average of 82. I also learned of a taboo, women on Yap were required to cover their body from their hips to their ankles; no such taboo required that they cover their breasts. The Chief told me to put the warrant in the appropraite file and go back to work]
