A different kind of western.it can be watched on 2 levels. Firstly as an adventure film as 2 people battle to stay alive in a hostile environment.
Sexondly as a condemnation of violence as a load of women and children are massacred at the end.

A bit like the way Russia is raping and killing in Ukraine right now.

And its pretty good. A couple of things jar. The Peter Strauss character is surely too innocent to be a trooper in the cavalry.

And I think they screwed the dates up They mention Custers massacre but then state that the film took place in 1864 (sand Creek) which would put it well before the Little Big Horn.

The massacre is pretty grim and as a child I was forbidden from watching it.rightly so, its not a film for kids.

As I say its a different kind of western but it keeps you watching till the end and its a counter balaance to all the usual films that depict the cavalry as heroes.

In fact the people responsible for Sand Creek were not the actual cavalry. They were an unregulated militia. led by a psycopath.
