Not a single tariff dime has been charged to an American farmer at the moment, but you'd think a fox just stole their last chicken. American farmers produced $992B worth of crops and livestock in 2017...about $20B of that is exported to China. Do the math. Trump has promised them subsidies if China doesn't back down and still they're sobbing. What isn't being mentioned is that China still has to EAT, right? They have no alternative to buying our pork and produce and Trump knows it. Every story about their phony plight undermines the President's ability to negotiate a fair trade balance so the drive-bys are eager to print them...anything to topple Trump. And don't think China isn't buying American farms as fast as they can...apparently that imaginary 25% tariff doesn't scare them in the least. :26:

The tariff’s ARE hurting. That’s the nature of tariffs. They hurt everyone until a deal is secured that ends up in less being produced and at a higher cost.

Trade war backfire: Steel tariff shrapnel hits U.S. farmers

Trump seems to want to offset those losses for farmers by increasing wealth destroying ethanol subsidies. Paying farmers for goods and services that nobody needs is standard practice these days.

Farmers always cry poor...always. We have tons of farms here and you should see the "toys" they have.....air conditioned tractors, four wheelers galore, and trucks guaranteed to cost 50,000

anything a farmer uses that's made of steel will cost him more $$ to own - trucks, tractors, plows etc. Trump increased the farmers overhead - they will pass that increase on to customers.

RW dolts are too F'n stupid to fathom the facts.

Tariffs are leftist by nature. When did you become a liberal, snowflake?

Tarriffs were one of the original methods of funding the federal government.

They’re always a method of funding government because they are, essentially, a form of taxation.

American farmers produced $992B worth of crops and livestock in 2017.

Gross cash farm income (GCFI) is annual income before expenses and includes income from cash receipts, farm-related cash income, and Government farm program payments. GCFI is forecast at $404 billion in 2018, versus $320 billion (inflation-adjusted 2018 dollars) in 2000, with the increase largely due to higher cash receipts. After declining in 2015 and 2016, GCFI is forecast to stabilize in 2017 and decline 2 percent (or by $9 billion) in 2018.

U.S. gross cash farm income forecast to decline slightly in 2018

Your $992 billion looks high.

Well I am sure you know more about the agricultural business than the farmers do. I am sure that they will take reasurrance from that as they plan their crops for this year and next.

Oh by the way- we are not the only place China can buy pork or soybeans.

You're right, but my opinion is still valid...what China buys is peanuts compared to total output......from my second link...

Agriculture, food, and related industries contributed $992 billion to U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) in 2015, a 5.5-percent share.

'toys'?

Farmers spend that kind of money to maximize production and minimize human labor- they have to spend that kind of money in order to stay competitive.

But they don't pay cash for that $500,000 combine- they buy it on credit based upon expected future profits.

What can we expect right now if the tariffs go through?
a) Farmers buying fewer combines- both because the prices will be going up for combines(steel and aluminum tariffs) and because they can't take the risk.
b) Foreign markets like Australia and Argentina taking over the market in China currently dominated by American farmers.

BIg gubmint intervening on a massive scale, controlling people’s purchases and forcing them to pay more by artificial means? The Constitution’s not pure, buddy. That’s why there are so many amendments. Don’t be surprised a little socialism snuck in there. Be surprised that you endorse it.

Keep in mind, folks, that Trump completely pussed out on his trade war and granted exemptions to the countries we have the biggest steel and aluminum trade deficits with. Essentialy, Trump protected their industries by removing all of their competitors, meaning they will be selling us more and at a higher price.

One of my grandfathers was a farmer, clown....I remember after he died, my granny put the farm into the "food bank" and was paid NOT to grow crops....the market has been rigged for years to prop up farm prices. And yeah, China can buy pork and soybeans from south america....pork full of worms and soybeans fertilized with human feces....yum yum.
