Socialism is defined as Government taking over business and the means of production.

One of America's biggest advocates of socialism is the Starbucks Corporation.

Why not, just as an experiment, have the government take over SBUX, and run the stores. Government employees could serve as baristas, represented by government employee unions.

IMHO, it would be an economic catastrophe, even on this small scale. The Government Dept. of Starbucks would hemorrhage money, customers would not like being required to fill out forms and be required to wait 6-8 weeks for their mochas. Prices would soar, yet profits would evaporate.

But that's the essential nature of socialism.

Or, how about we do it with the Army instead, see if that works. See if having government control of the Army leads to something good.

Nah, it'd never happen.

How much would a Coffee cost if all the employees made 6 figures and had full lifetime pensions? Oh, and you couldn't fire them.

Do you believe the army is run efficiently?

No, it isn't; only in right wing special pleading does it do that.

Socialism is a mixed-market economy that is organized via a social contract like a Constitution instead of a capital contract or common operating agreement.

Socialism is inferior to capitalism because people are not given an incentive to excel. If a grocery store clerk makes as much as a doctor but both get free healthcare and pensions and subsidized housing, why would people choose to be doctors? Greater good?

Use Starbucks as an example for socialism?

You idiot, the man who runs Starbucks talked about a Presidential run and spoke out against socialism

Outgoing Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz Rips Democrats For Moving 'Too Far Left'

Here is what he said

"I think we got to get away from these falsehoods and start talking about the truth and not false promises," he continued. "I think the greatest threat domestically to the country is this $21 trillion debt hanging over the cloud of America and future generations. The only way we're going to get out of that is we've got to grow the economy, in my view, 4 percent or greater. And then we have to go after entitlements."

It's nearly sacrosanct for a Democrat to suggest curbing entitlement spending, but Schultz is a businessman. It is hard to imagine, however, him succeeding in a crowded 2020 field with such . . . Republican . . . ideas.

we really just need a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage, unemployment compensation for being unemployed on an at-will basis in our at-will employment States, and Industrial Automation to help with social costs.

Let's not and then say we didn't. I enjoy my coffee free of bits of chains, blood and bones--you know, all the benefits of ideologically derived, politically applied state socialist governing fun.

You obviously don't mind getting Salmonella poisoning, which has occurred multiple times under socialist food inspection.

Problems as you describe never occurred prior to the creation of the FDA. That claim that it did is a socialist myth. How long do you imaging a food company will stay in business if word gets out that their product is contaminated?

how about this form of practical socialism;

we really just need a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage, unemployment compensation for being unemployed on an at-will basis in our at-will employment States, and Industrial Automation to help with social costs.

I just returned fro a European vacation, and learned something about socialism from a tour bus driver in Vienna, Austria. He asked me how much Americans pay for a drivers license and I told him it vary's depending on what state someone lives and was between $18.00 to $30.00 every five years. He told me they have to pay $3,200.00 every five years and he had to pay $10,000 for their version of a CDL license. I asked him why those cost so much and he said the money goes to pay for their "free healthcare," which of course confirmed what I already knew: There is no such thing as free anything! he then told me tat the average hourly employee in Austria makes $1,100.00 a month. I asked him how in the world they can live on that and he said that though his wife works to, they live with her parents because they cannot afford the extremely high rent. he told me something else that really illustrates the evil of socialism: Only wealthy people can afford to park their car at the airport, because you have to pay an outrageous amount for parking fee, entrance fee, exit fee and get this a property tax fee for the land the parking spot sits on!
