Hey honey I'm taking the kids to see the Indigenous people's day parade be back for supper! Will there also be a gay contingent?

S..Daddy what does this holiday commemorate?

D....Well son it commemorates the day that a certain unnamed explorer developed a navigation route from Europe to the Americas.

S...Was he an indigenous explorer?

D...Ahem....ahhhh...ummmm...well no not exactly.

S.....Daddy, mommy says if I have indigenous I can take some Rolaids to fix it!

D...oh...no Son that's indigestion...it's a totally different thing!

Be sure to tell the kid how Columbus captured peaceful natives and forced them to go look for gold in a place that didn't have any and when they came back emptyhanded, cut off their hands. And how ("how", get it?) he sent some back to Europe as "specimens". And as a nice twist tell him how CC was working for a country that had just kicked out the Jews.

Call it Columbus Day and take him shopping

Call it Columbus Day and take him to Columbus Ohio. That'll scar him for life.

Oh yes. Much worse.

Besides, Grover Cleveland didn't cut off anybody's hands.
how did Grover get into this conversation?...he had nothing to do with the city...
