What do you do in a "thermo" class? I know I've heard of them and know they have something to do with thermodynamics but what do you actually do in those classes? Do you just heat stuff up?
No. It's the study of the relations between heat, work, temperature, and energy. They teach the laws of thermodynamics, closed and open thermodynamic systems, thermodynamic properties, thermodynamic equilibrium, PVT, cycles, equations of state, state diagrams, paths and processes,etc.
