Slippery Slopes

I get that you're sarcastic, but how would you explain that to a child then? Everyone gets to be nasty to everyone?

I guess that's the difference between us then. If someone asked me not to call them fat bitch, it wouldn't matter to me if everyone else in the world could. It's different for everyone, I suppose.

I think the main difference is that some African-Americans have used this as a rallying cry to complain about bigger things.

Look at all the "politically-correct" posts and stories around. Someone innocently says, "them" when referring to a certain race, all hell breaks lose. They are asked to resign, go to sensitivity training, etc...all because someone took "offense" to a word that there was no reason to take offense to.

I don't use words like that. I don't "treat" people with disrespect. I was brought up better than that.

All I am saying is that if a word is offensive, then it is offensive. Just because I am white doesnt' mean I am allowed to use the word cracker and blacks aren't allowed to because they aren't white.

BS.

No, explain that nastiness does exist in the world, but that we Americans as a whole do not subscribe to nastiness and division between different groups of people because we are ALL Americans (except for the illegal wetbacks :D), equal under the law.

I agree, I think if someone is offended that someone else refers to their race a certain way, they should make their voice heard. Out of courtesy, some level of accommodation would be nice in response, but having people resign is extreme. That's abuse of the courtesy.

I think there is and should be a double standard with the word "******." After all, there isn't a history of slavery and hatecrime associated with the word "cracker." I agree with Bill Cosby on this one. It would be nice if everybody, including blacks stopped using the word. And I like jello too.

So you'd teach them to not use those words then, because that would be subscribing to nastiness?

Something EVERY parent of EVERY race should teach their children.

But yet, you can't teach them about porn? This is getting circular, so I'll stop.

We all know how parents should teach their kids about respect. Start at a young age...2 or 3...sharing toys..not being mean..then as they get older, teaching them about calling other people names, etc.

Explain how you would "teach them about porn."

By teaching them respect. Just because you see something on TV or the internet or whatever doesn't validate you doing whatever you want.

See, I don't believe in telling kids "that's just the way it is," or "just because I said so." I think it's an adult's job to teach *why* things are the way they are so that they can make a conscious choice, not just tell them how it is and expect them to agree with you. With porn, I guess I'd tell them about why people do porn and what and who it's for. If you tell a kid only losers who can't get girls use porno and tell them that actually having a girlfriend or boyfriend is much better, I'm sure that more kids would stay away from porno. :) I think something like this would be more constructive than just telling them that it's evil or that it's "the devil." :wank: :wank: :wank: :wank: :wank: :wank: :wank:

And this is related to porn how?

The USMB is on the internet. Teletubbies is on TV (even know we know they are the devil spawn).

How does porn deteriorate society? By making sex and sexuality casual, correct? You teach your children the negative aspects of porn.

I will give you this..but you said "Just because you see something on TV or the internet or whatever doesn't validate you doing whatever you want" in your response to teaching them about porn. I didnt' see the relation.

There are people who have looked at porn, who don't think that sex is casual, and who don't treat women with disrespect because of the porn they saw.

Do you not think it is possible to look at porn and still treat women with respect?

Only the PC-concocted terms "African-American" or "people of color" will do for these folks.

Or you could just call them "Americans" or "people" ...

Except the white person would get his ass kicked.

Then he would press charges, the assaulters would get arrested but the charges would be dropped because they acted on their "being offended" by the N word.

And...probably...the poor white guy would be charged with a hate crime for muttering the N word in the first place.

Right... white people just have it SO hard.

Depending on the context, "******" is a demeaning word. An insult.
Getting your ass kicked for calling him a ****** or any other insulting word would be the same thing.

And no, charges would not be dropped because a person was offended.

Many times the various sides of a debate get pushed into a corner with the slippery slope argument," That logic would eventually be used to justify (insert reprehensible act or state of affairs)".

The right is accused of wanting a new corporate serfdom, the left is accused of wanting a completely planned economy. Then we must evaluate. Is this really what the group desires? I know I WANT trust busting legislation, some OSHA standards, maybe a minimum wage. So, no, I do not want a new serfdom. But does the left want a completely planned economy? Ummm. Yes.

OK. Sure.

My example...walking down the street, using it as a greeting..is not demeaning.

Happens every day in the black community.
