Slavery: A Racial or An Economic System?

7. The NYTimes wrote “It was only government power that ended slavery” Opinion | Rand Paul and the Limits of Libertarianism

No it wasn't.

“Slavery was killed by capitalism because that institution puts a premium on creativity, initiative, and good judgment (which even the mightiest slave-master’s whip cannot extract from its victims), and because the ethos that gives life to capitalism – free-market liberalism – is hostile to the ownership of man by man. That the first-to-industrialize English were the first abolitionists is no coincidence.

In North America, pressure brought by capitalism to end slavery was countered by the very agency that you praise as slaves’ liberator: government.

From 17th and 18th century slave codes to the Fugitive Slave Acts of 1793 and of 1850, government in America actively deployed force on behalf of slaveholders. Without this force, slavery would never have taken root as deeply as it did in the U.S. and would have died away sooner and with less bloodshed.

Sincerely,
Donald J. Boudreaux" Capitalism, Slavery, and the State - Cafe Hayek

The Democrat Party.....the oldest racist organization in America.

The Democrat Party has been in a bad mood ever since we pried their slaves away from them.

The way we can tell it was all about economics and not racism is by looking at how black people were embraced and welcomed into free society in the days following the end of the war.
This post is self defeating. If race was not a component, then how did it become notable that "blacks" were embraced.
It was sarcasm. Blacks were villified by former confederates for over a century, and many still to this day.

ohhh sheeite, you committed subterfuge and I failed my sarcasm detector!! :(

In many ways, it can be argued that enslaving someone against their will is a virtue, and benefits the slave even more than the master. American slave owners were role models for the people, and the hundreds of thousands of slaughtered confederates that fought to defend slavery were America’s greatest heroes. If we work hard enough, we can fight the liberal disease that brought slavery to an end.

The people hiring Mexican illegals today, have far more in common with those enslaving Blacks back then as slavers., rather than real Racist Nationalist Separatists do.

The slave masters were merely Multiculturalist expansionists on greed, kind of like the Globalists of their day. (Even if minor differences were on display)

I've never defended the Democrat Party....you should read more carefully.

Now....your Democrat Party???????

For your education:

The party that proves Lord Acton’s adage: Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

1. The Democrats are, and have always been, the party of slavery, segregation, and second-class citizenship, the party that stood in schoolhouse doors to block black school children….until Republicans sent in the 101st airborne

2. It is the party of Jefferson Davis, the KKK, Planned Parenthood, concentration camps for American citizens, and restrictions on free speech.

3. It is the party of Mao ornaments on the White House Christmas tree, and of James Hodgkinson, and of Communist Bernie Sanders, of pretend genders.

4. The Democrat Party is the oldest racist organization in America, the trail of tears, the author of Jim Crow and the bigotry of low expectations, filibustered against women getting the vote and killed every anti-lynching bill to get to Congress

5. The Democrat Party is the number one funder of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran….to the tune of $100 billion to the Ayatollahs….and gave Hezbollah the go-ahead to sell cocaine in America.

6. It is the party of anti-Semitism and Louis Farrakhan, and of the first Cabinet member ever to be held in contempt of Congress.

7. It is the party that admits its future depends on flooding the country with illegal aliens, and telling them to vote.

8. It is the party that couldn't suck up to the Castro Brothers enough, and treats the Bill of Rights like a Chinese menu..

9. The Democrats got us into the Civil War…Jefferson Davis .... Woodrow Wilson, WWI….FDR, WWII……Truman, Korean War….VietNam, JFK and LBJ…..yet they want to weaken our military.

10. The Democrats are the party that looks at the mayhem their gun laws have produced in Chicago, ……and this is their model for the nation.

You're like a damn near guarantee to be inaccurate. You are an anti knowledge damn near illiterate with the way your confirmation bias has overtaken your literal life. You think quotes of opinions render absolute facts...nobody in their right mind would hire you to do any sort of critical thinking. Dunce, for you, would be a huge understatement.

And you are what we call a moral relativist who is ignorant of history.

Slavery was the norm for most people throughout history - either as chattel slaves, indentured servants or serfs. American slave owners weren't greedy maniacs; they acted according the the norms of their society, norms which eventually were questioned and changed.

Capitalism and the Industrial Revolution contributed to societal changes which caused Western Civilization to question the morality of slavery. England outlawed it, followed by the U.S. It's very easy and convenient for you to virtue signal and morally preen by demonizing people who lived in a different society in a past era. Your ignorance causes you to not see the role those people played in bringing about the end of slavery in Western Civilization.

Slavery is still practiced in much of the world. Where is your ire towards those who still sell and own slaves?

The Bible outright endorsing slavery probably didnt help the folks with moral guidance, any. Its funny whena biblical moralist calls biblical morals objective, but then shifts to moral relativism when they need to defend slavery and genocide and such.

"it was the norm back then" =/= absolute/objective. That's literally moral relativism.

The people living in giant cotton plantations while they imported Black slaves, were simply greedy maniacs.

They put the fate of their mega-bucks against the racial heritage of America.

Truly disgraceful.

it was all about money....

the love of money is the root of evil....

it was cheaper to buy slaves and ship them here by the boatload than it was to import European men in bondage to you for 5 to 7 years to work the land....

the plantation master got to keep the 50 acres given to them per head that they brought here to till the land afterwards....when they were slaves..... headright ownership.

but when a white man in bondage to you, when the 5 to 7 years was up, they were given the 50 acres....

it was all greed.

1.Slavery was a societal response to a need for labor. And it was rarely a system based on race.

“There is no king who has not had a slave among his ancestors, and no slave who has not had a king among his.”
Helen Keller

2.“It is surely true that slavery was less common among primitive man than among the societies that arose after the agricultural revolution….because primitive man was so much poorer.

Slaves are a very large expense for nomadic bands. Guarding an enemy who doesn’t want to be part of the group is costly and dangerous.

Children can be taken in as assets- a common practice n many primitive societies, notably among American Indians- and women can be forced into marriage, very often a kind of slavery. But captured warriors from another tribe are a liability. Better to kill them, often theatrically…..

After the agricultural revolution, roughly 11,000 years ago, slavery emerges almost everywhere. The most ancient texts make reference to it. The Bible takes it as a given in human affairs.

The Code of Hammurabi says that freeing a slave is a crime punishable by death. There are records of slavery in China going back to 1800 B.C.”
Jonah Goldberg, “Suicide of the West: How the Rebirth of Tribalism, Populism, Nationalism, and Identity Politics is Destroying American Democracy,” p. 33

3.Thomas Sowell, in “Black Rednecks and White Liberals,”p.113, explains why Americans see the institution as primarily racial, and why our educational system is largely to blame.

Karl Marx used the concept to his advantage: “Similarities between wage labor and slavery were noted as early as Cicero in Ancient Rome, such as in De Officiis.[11] With the advent of the Industrial Revolution, thinkers such as Pierre-Joseph Proudhon and Karl Marx elaborated the comparison between wage labor and slavery…” Wage slavery - Wikipedia

Parenthetically, if government schools did not perpetuate the racial aspects of slavery in America, the Democrat Party would lose a huge voting block.

4.Slavery as a racial institution was a stain on America’s noble history….but the crime has been paid for, in blood:

"At least 620,000 combatants died during the four-year struggle; recent estimates put the total closer to 750,000, or more than 2 percent of the nation’s population at that time. More soldiers died in prison camps alone than America lost during the entire Vietnam War. Perhaps more to the point, some 350,000 Union soldiers died during the conflict, abolitionists in effect if not always in intent. Adjusted for population, that would amount to almost 5 million service deaths today, amounting to a blood sacrifice more than sufficient to redeem whatever moral or intellectual inconsistencies there are to be found in America’s founding documents.

And if that’s not sufficient? Well, then, nothing will be. But for most Americans—and for much of the rest of the world—it is more than enough. "
Blood Redemption

But it was not the Civil War that ended the institution of slavery…it was capitalism.

Next.
Why is slavery in the United States- and in the Western Hemisphere seen as a racial issue?

Because slavery was institutionalized to be chattel slavery for Africans- not whites.
