Silk Road

Major investment in a new Silk Road. What effect could it really have on regional/global economy?

China pledges $124 billion for new Silk Road, says open to everyone - One America News Network
For starters , it probably means they will put some use to their excess reserves.
Second, it will give chinese construction companies something to do that isn't building huge phantom cities.
Finally this will probably establish China as the main trade hub in the world ... while the US embraces wall building ( or not, at this point I'm not sure if it was just the usual bravado from the current POTUS ).

Who is going to play the Dread Pirate Roberts role?

so should we copy them?? What exactly would you like to do most???

Well , the situation in this side of the world is a bit different Ed. In any case, Trump promised to rebuild the US infrastructure, ( bridges, electric grid , ports). That would be a good start.

But China's plans go well beyond their own territory, and in that part is where I have my qualms. If their strategy is to push infrastructure around the world to develop their trading partners ( as the Marshal plan did), it is likely they will create a positive feedback loop of growth and prosperity. If they are planning on burring into debt all their trading partners just to keep their own companies from going broke (they actually have a lot of debt right now) they will sooner than later hit a wall when people notice Chinese projects create more problems than solutions.

Us infrastructure? Silly socialist hoax of course we know the bridges are fine because people use them every moment of every day. It's only an issue because liberal idiots think Tax and spend stimulates the economywhen in reality it retards the economy

maybe put a port is very very local. Let the locals pay for it and charge according to use it. that way it has to be cheaper than other ports to be worth while. If the central govt communists build it they won't care if it is profitable because it is not their money invested. Did I make that simple enough for you???

Ed, first, please stop butchering the English language as if you were a latin from a banana republic.

"Maybe putting a port is a very very local project. Let the locals pay for it and charge according to its use. That way it has to be cheaper than other ports to be worth while. Second: if such is the case why has the aforementioned port not being built , and why the importance of the US ports has been dwindling? It seems the free market has no room for improving the ports or for building new ones.
