Shutting Down The US Government

So what is the big deal if the representatives disagree to spending cuts? Dems are thinking the disagreement will lead to shutting down government when nothing gets funded. Why not keep sending through a combination of spending packages until they get enough votes to carry.:eusa_whistle:
I have an idea. if they want to make all the cuts to SS , lets raise the minnium wage to $10.00 plus, so they can put something in their 401.

IF unions go their way, you won't have a living wage or a minimum wage anymore.

who says? :eusa_whistle:

Funny thing, I work for a school, am not in a Union. And I make a livable WAGE.

How the hell did that happen.:eusa_whistle:

Indeed. If you are good at your craft? WHY have some thug speak for you? Your actions speak rather loudly as you make yourself indispensible to the cause of those that hired you.

Unions are nothing more than legalized theft

Or rather...an entity whose time has come and gone. Their message was received early in the movement and there are laws now that protect workers.

All we see now is residual greed. ;)

Let 'em shut it down. It cracks me up every time they make public statements like this, as though it's a threat to the people. Services will continue, people in the private sector will get their paychecks, kids will get their milk at school and the congress will eventually come running back asses and elbows once they realize, as they did once before, that after awhile all they are doing is proving to everyone that the world doesn't need them.

No, services will not continue, except for a few services, and they will be limited. You will get a SS check, but you won't be able to sign up for SS, or call and ask questions of about your account.

Since you skipped my most recent post on this in favor of the first, I'll repeat it for you:

Liberals will attempt to raise taxes whether the Gov shuts down or stays open or stands on its head sideways.

As far as the other poster who said watch out when seniors don't get their SS checks, that's exactly why the congressmen will come running back. If liberals think that shutting down government will work politically in their favor after they keep proving to be the ones unable to reach a budget compromise - even when they were the majority - they're out of their minds. they thought the same thing ion '94 and America cheered the GOP for doing just that. How soon they forget.

Fiscal responsibility was what this is about, and it's one of the issues that the GOP used to clean the democrat's collective clock this past November by an historic margin. The dems held congress for all of a few years years and then lost it again. The democrats of today don't get it - America doesn't want socialism. Period.

we should shut down the government one or two weeks every month.
the employees could take time to reflect on whether or not they want to be in a union. we could use the saved money for campaigns and coathangers.

If the GOP doesn't get it's way, they should take their ball and go home. I like that adult thinking.

Just like the Democrats did in Wisconsin....Is that what you mean

No, this is different. In Wisconsin the democrats did act childish. In this instance the GOP is saying, in essence, "We will not waste any more of the taxpayers money, need to lower taxes to get the economy moving as Obama's spending put us on the edge of bankruptcy, and if the democrats want to sell allowing government to shut down if they cannot raise taxes as an issue to the American people in 2012, be our guest." That's what's happening here and the GOP should NOT blink or they'll be no distinction between them, which is what the democrats want after November. Don;t blink. If shutting down is what not blinking means, shut it down, full down, all the way, and let the democrats take the heat, because Americans want lower taxes, not higher taxes. The GOP should stand 100% firm. This is a winner. 100%

It's not the 'democrats' in Wisconsin who're saying :eusa_hand: to the proposed legislation - it's the state workers who'll be most affected by it. I can't really blame them - if they know enough about current events to teach, they knew that price adjustments for "state worker" is as on the table as price adjustments for housing in this economy.

It's just kind of a weird opener in the negotiations to start with "First things first. The Union is done."

It's like the new foreman walking on the job site and firing the entire crew while letting some if not all know that he was looking for resumes. It works, but it's COLD.

They should probably at least cut their Vacations short and get back and agree on something. That being said,i think the Democrats are behaving like spoiled little brats. These proposed cuts are actually very modest. They're opposing just to oppose. It's just more Party before Country for them. $60 Billion is actually a drop in a bucket. Much much larger cuts need to be made. You're seeing the same thing in Wisconsin where the Democratic Teacher Unions are throwing their temper tantrum. They think most are supporting them but in reality most are actually supporting the Governor Scott Walker. $60 Billion should be an easy agreement for these guys. Shame on the Democrats.

There should be a constitutional amendment that says the congress cannot spend more then it takes in every fiscal year. Thats some crazy thinking though, I know.

The Democrats really are opposing just to oppose. $60 Billion in cuts is not enough for them to shut the Government down over. It is a very modest & reasonable number. This really is just Party before County coming from the Democrats. The cuts actually need to be much more than $60 Billion. So shame on the Democrats.

Which union members get paid minimum wage? I thought the only people the unions pay minimum wage to are the people they pay to protest while union members sit at home.

BINGO! :clap2::clap2: This has been proven. The Democrats do that all the time. How lame.

Oh, i get it, the union bosses and their thugs are NOT aligned with the democrat party! Oh, I see! That means Wisconsin resides on the planet fucking Pluto and is filled with marshmallow trees and lolly-fucking-pop houses.

Of course the democrats are aligned with the unions and vise versa. Cut the crap.

God, the way people lie sometimes just makes me sick!

The Democrats are gonna have to start growing up and stop putting their Party before their Country. $60 Billion in cuts is hardly worthy of a Government Shutdown. These cuts are actually not even close to being enough. The Democrats are just playing their childish games again. We need more Adults in our Congress. Hopefully the People will see this happen when they vote more Democrats out of office in 2012. The time for childish political games should be over. Our Country is in real trouble. Time to grow up and accept this.

There should be a constitutional amendment that says the congress cannot spend more then it takes in every fiscal year. Thats some crazy thinking though, I know.

And I would add to that the Constitutional Justification chapter and verse.

they shouldn't spend more than half, the other half towards paying off the debt. this country is so great we shouldn't have any debt.
we can't count on massive bubble bonazas and a fat economy like when clinton was president and he let osama bid laden go, became bushes problem, so clinton could get blowed.

While I fully understand what you are saying? My point is that every bill up for a vote should have written into it the citation of the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 that would portend to authorize it.

It would slow the process down, force legislators to actually READ, and research.

Oh geez, they'll coming running back. They always do, trying to look like heroes on white horses when they're really just terrified for their futures. 2012 isn't that far away. We should cut the bs and just start telling them, full-faced, to stop screwing around. This isn't a theater stage - they're supposed to be getting things done.

The GOP is right. Shut it down.

No, they went to Illinois. :eusa_whistle:
