"President Barack Obama and Republican congressional leaders take their battle over taxes into a face-to-face meeting on Tuesday with no breakthrough expected soon and Republicans showing no sign of compromise.

Obama plays host to Republicans John Boehner, the next speaker of the House of Representatives, and Mitch McConnell, the party's leader in the Senate, as well as Democrats Nancy Pelosi, the current speaker, and Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, at 10:30 EST at the White House.

Taxes are at the top of their agenda for the scheduled hour-long session. Neither side anticipated the meeting would lead to an immediate agreement on extending Bush-era tax cuts that expire at the end of the year.

Republicans emboldened by congressional gains in Nov. 2 elections went into the meeting insistent that tax cuts for all Americans be extended, even for the wealthiest ones.

If no agreement is reached, taxes on all Americans would increase, a new year shocker that would increase pressure on Washington to act."

At least Republicans had the good sense to keep this-one outta-the-public's-eye!!!

(...Unlike their last-one.
