In our country we have usally pick our president depending on party. Each party has their own moral beliefs. One big issue is whether we should rise taxes or lower them. The democarts usally are the ones that want to higher taxes. Yes rising taxes gives more money for government programs. it also gives more money to the government for other uses. on the flip side the republicans believe in lowering taxes. depending on the type of tax, it will be less money out of each persons wallot. which means more money can go toward nessecity. it also gives people more money to spend on goods which will in the long run give more money to the government. it also would lower taxes to busness which would give the ability to expand the busness. in my last thread i asked what the unemployment rate. i went through the years as taxes were lowered more people were employed. which would lower the use of government programs. this would also give more money to pay for road work and other things. also no matter what your views are it would give the soldiers over in iraq more sucurity so we as america can protect and invest in protection for the men and women fighting for america.

Taxes are only one side of the balance sheet. The other side is spending.

It may be that the GOP believes in lower taxes and the Dems higher taxes, but both the GOP and the Dems believe in higher spending. Oh sure, the GOP say they believe in lower spending, but in practice, they increase spending. Believe what they do, not what they say.

Thus, the Republicans have become the party of deficits and debt. They have become the party of fiscal irresponsibility when they used to be the party of fiscal discipline.

Since both parties are for higher spending and deficits are merely tax increases in the future - and even higher taxes due to the wonders of compound interest - I'd rather be for the party of higher taxes and a stronger fiscal position. Structural deficits distort the economy and create imbalances as well as increases taxes on our children.

Its sad what the Republican Party has become.

congress is democratic and that means that the democrats are right where republicans are on spending so since the congress is democratic if the issue is spending it is the democrats.

Awesome. A Republican-pothead online persona. I sorely think the site was lacking one of these....

Desperate people will do desperate things. That is why marijuana is legal for midicinal purposes in some states.

Congress spends billions of dollars a year earmarked for no nothing projects that could never improve the lives of the public, rich or poor. If we really wanted to cut spending and the deficit then we have to stop spending billions of dollars on personal projects of Congress members and other pork projects. A Republican congress member wanted to put a one year moritorium on any earmarked projects. But Nancy Pelosi would not agree to it. It seems that we really do not want to cut spending or the national debt, or we would take steps to improve the problem.

If you don't have a sufficient majority, you can be blocked by the other party in many efforts.

This particular group of Dems have inbred too much with the current repubs.

lower taxes and practice responsible, transparent spending. Kill earmarks and lobby influence.

You answered your own question. How about answering mine. Why do people on wellfare have to be fat and what is a tick?

They don't have to be. They choose to be, because you're allowed to buy junk food with food stamps.

And a tick is a creepy little bug that sucks the blood out of you.

Deficits are an invisible tax. George W. Bush raised taxes more than any president in history, and now our money is worth less. This shell game is believed by a majority of Republicans.

The Republican Party caused a lot of debt during the Bush Years, but so has Clinton. Both had some surplus quarters, but nothing entirely significant.

Clinton raised taxes and the deficit grew. Bush lowed taxes somewhat and the deficit still grew. Lets also remember 9/11 and the war on terrorism. Lets not forget that we had to rebuild our military might after Clinton stripped it. This stuff costs money. The Republicans were not as fiscally sound as I had hoped, but we had a lot of mess to clean up after the Clinton era.

The Federal Government needs to return a lot of rights back to the states. The Federal Government should only control the military/defense/investigation sector, the education STANDARDS, and a few other essential departments that help people nationally (from SS or FEMA). After those basic structures, the states should retain control of what mostly goes on. The Federal government should lower taxes and create a flat tax. The states should increase taxes a bit, to open state sponsored programs and services. Even with the states raising state taxes, by lowering the Fed tax citizens will have a LOT more money in their pockets. Theres a good fix for the economy too.

Citizens are SOOOOO overtaxed. Federal Income Tax, State Taxes, County Taxes, gas taxes, sales taxes, License taxes, capital gains taxes. So many taxes, and we still can't get it right. All this money and they overspend. It's about time to take it away from them then. Democrat or Republican, doesn't matter. Take it away and let the states and voters decide. Limit the Federal Government, and that in itself will fix a lot of issues as well.
