"One of the most common errors we find in the press is the confusion between correlation and causation in scientific and health-related studies. In theory, these are easy to distinguish — an action or occurrence can cause another (such as smoking causes lung cancer), or it can correlate with another (such as smoking is correlated with alcoholism). If one action causes another, then they are most certainly correlated. But just because two things occur together does not mean that one caused the other, even if it seems to make sense"

"In general, it is extremely difficult to establish causality between two correlated events or observances. In contrast, there are many statistical tools to establish a statistically significant correlation"

"Typically, one can only establish correlation unless the effects are extremely notable and there is no reasonable explanation that challenges causality."

Thus, consider this data,

and decide, causation or correlation? Of course other variables might explain why mass shootings are much more common in the United States. If you believe something else is at work, please explain.

Of course there are more factors than the guns themselves. We used to be able to order them out of a Sears catalog. But we have moved leftwards since. So the biggest factor is the idiots that think they are smart and have gained too much power and actually think even more idiocy is the solution. That kind of stupid can't be fixed, just defeated.

Gun control is a failed issue politically. It just wont happen nationally. The libs need to get over it and move on.

I blame Democrats.

If you look at the frequency, it's been since the Liberal take over of the schools, where personal responsibility is not taught, where everyone has their feelings protected, and excuses for bad behavior is made on a daily behavior.

Back when schools had corporal punishment, kids actually failed classes, achievement was celebrated, and standards were held kids learned that their feelings, while they could be hurt, wasn't the end of the world.

Like this last shooting.. Why? Because his feelings were hurt that none of those girls would have sex with him. He thought that he was owed sex by anyone he wanted it from.

If we let go of guns will you let go of gays?

A far bigger issue than guns is doctor prescribed drugs -- specifically antidepressants. Every recent, mass shooter was on them. They actually do more harm than good and are known to cause deeper depression and violent behavior. So gun violence could be blamed on the medical industry to a degree.

And? What was your point here?

unless you locked him up he would most likely done something anyways

There is a correlation between increased welfare families and crimes. We have record numbers of single parent families and more children in the family. Less role models and less good parenting add up to troubled youth. Increased gang activity seems to go along with more illegal aliens in cities. Children from dysfunctional homes are more likely to turn to gangs.

Used to be every kid had an air rifle and many started hunting with their dads as youngsters. Mass shootings weren't an issue even with the ease of obtaining guns.

These days, medications have replaced discipline with children. Now when a child daydreams or acts up in class, they are likely to be treated for ADHD. I doubt the medications, in addition to poor parenting, are going to produce a well-adjusted teen.

The left blames the NRA simply because they don't like guns and don't think people should have them. They push the notion that the mere presence of guns and our right to own them is behind the violence. There is nothing to substantiate that. Most violence is seen in the cities, something largely ignored by the left because often the worst neighborhoods are where it originates. Those same neighborhoods have high numbers of people who are high school drop outs and come from poor families. It's the dysfunction in those homes that planted the seeds of violence.

Some have blamed violence in movies and music, but a person would have to have serious issues to begin with in order to be influenced by that. It is possible that too much exposure to violence can desensitize some people.

Guns have been around forever. The violence we see now didn't show up till after the creation of the great society and overreaching interference in schools and our lives from liberal politicians.

Many of their mass shootings only had 1 or 2 people hurt, doesn't even come close to the FBI's definition for a mass shooting. Great propaganda though.
