Seven detention officers fired after death of Texas inmate

This story doesn't indicate the cause of death for Mr. Scott nor does it hint of any malfeasance on the part of the CO's you refer to as "thugs". Pepper spray, restraints, spit masks are all tools at the jailer's disposal. The county wouldn't give those tools if they didn't expect them to be used.

Further, the story doesn't indicate a cause of death. Should the ER have given the deceased a shot of haldol to simmer his ass down?

This is a turn up. A Sherriff doing the right thing. All he needs to do now is arrest and charge the thugs and the court will do the rest.
The article says that he was pepper sprayed AFTER being restarined. Animals! I get that the job is tough but you know that going in. In the end prohibition takes another victim.

Yes you are correct. All 7 were sacked for doing the right thing.

You are sure in a hurry, lets wait for the official autopsy of the man first, he was reported acting strangely (what ever that means) which Marihuana doesn't generate, maybe he had other drugs in his system?

"An independent autopsy found Scott's death was likely caused by restraint and asphyxiation, NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported. The news station did not identify the entity that conducted the independent autopsy. The Collin County Medical Examiner is expected to release its autopsy in a few weeks."

The Sherriff may have overreacted....

Actually it does talk about a probably cause of death and it also states they pepper sprayed him after restraing him. If true that wasn't necessary. And in a sane world he couldn't be held for utilizing the "wrong drug". Prohibition causes far more death than it prevents has Potugal and others have proven. But we refuse to govern via science in so many ways.

Pepper sprayed a shit load of the scum, and regretfully kept one crazy black guy from hanging himself. I should have been fired for that one.

Restrained people can still be dangerous.

The guy who killed Lee Oswald died (mysteriously) in custody and society breathed a sigh of relief. Bill Clinton bombed a freaking country in Europe to force the surrender of a single man and then he died (mysteriously) in custody and nobody cared. Prison officials placed weak racist cannibal killer Jeffrey Dahmer alone with an angry black weight lifter and then seemed puzzled when he came up dead. Shit happens and prison guards are held responsible only when the media pretends to be outraged.

In the presence of multiple gaurds? How?

The fact that the guards were fired and not charged indicates that they were not responsible for the inmate's death but possibly victims of political fallout for a system that is over worked and over crowded. Why would a liberal Brit be concerned about an inmate death in Texas when there is a ongoing investigation regarding the soaring suicide rate in U.K. prisons and juvenile centers?

They probably didn't do a thing to cause his death.
More likely what happened, is that when they started investigating this incident, they found a bunch of other violations of policy and similar bullshit, and the Sheriff decided to clean house.

If they had, he probably would have been there at the ER longer than 3 hours. It sounds like they just did a medical clearance to make sure he was okay before they took him to jail.

At least the bad guy caught with the drugs is dead.

I think immediate dention was warranted based upon his behavior but it true he should have been take to a hospital. Not whatever this was.

Huffing can set people up for both behavior and sudden cardiac events. Makes me wonder ...
