Sergeant Bee, immortalized in Afghanistan photo, reflects on war's legacy

So does the war on drugs, but Democrats don't want to fight either war. They reminisce about their days as pot smoking hippies protesting the Vietnam War.
hehheh No doubt.

The media got this notion of our presence in Afghanistan for 20 yrs. as being a never ending war....what they did not seem to understand was that our presence in Afghanistan was just another 'theater' in our war on terrorism...and that war must not end until terrorism is eradicated.

Through their ability to spread propaganda they convinced the majority of voters that we were wasting valuable resources and lives in Afghanistan thus we needed to withdraw.

It is true the nation bldg. aspect was a waste of trillions of dollars and that was the big mistake...we needed to maintain control of Afghanistan for a number of very important reasons but it was a foolish mistake to try and establish democracy in a muslim dominated society....they had no desire for that.

Somehow and most unfortunately even Donald Trump came to believe we needed to withdraw--how that happened I am not sure.

I think he may have listened to his favorite daughter too much.

Anyhow.....Trump made a huge mistake by advocating our withdrawal and then making a deal with the taliban.

Perhaps he thought he could pick up a lot of votes that way; understanding that the majority of the public according to polls anyway; wanted us to withdraw and I do not dispute the polls on this because the msm had convinced the public we needed to withdraw.

Though I am not sure if Trump had got re-elected he would have withdrawn....he left himself a lot of wiggle room on that as in his deal placed conditions on the Taliban and if they did not live up to those conditions then there would have been no withdrawal.

It has been said many times 'freedom is not free' and most unfortunately we have been forced to sacrifice many lives over the years to maintain our freedom.

Too many still fail to understand that in order to preserve our way of life and freedoms we must always be willing to pay that cost as terrible as it is.

Nothing we did in Afghanistan had anything to do with protecting our freedom. If anything the entire mess had eroded those freedoms.

Unfortunately you and many others are mistaken about that.

You and they (though you do not realize it) have been propagandized.

As events in Afghanistan unfold and as terrorism increases you and the rest at some point in the future will realize that withdrawing from Afghanistan was a huge, huge mistake.

Those who attacked us weren't even from Afghanistan. They could have come together anywhere.

That is where Al-Quada was.....Bush offered the taliban a deal either you get rid of Al quada or we will.....the taliban said the Al-Quadea are our guests.

Thus we went over ....over there and ran the al quada out of afghanistan and in the process killed a shit load of them.....payback is a bitch.

Some do not realize the benefits that having a 'nation state' gives a group of terrorists.

We will soon find out once again....history has a tendency to repeat itself.

The Taliban offered to turn OBL over three different times. They had nothing to do with 9/11..

Bush invaded because he didn't get the gas pipeline he wanted across Afghanistan to Dabhol, India.

The fact is the Alquada headed by bin laden were in afghanistan and the taliban ignored bush's warning to evict them.

The alquada was responsible for the 9/11 attack.

And then went to Pakistan but Bush ignored that which shows it was never about getting those who attacked us in the first place.

You are wrong as in you do not know the real story about them offering to turn over OBL.

The gas pipeline nonsense is utter b.s.

The taliban wanted to negotiate about offering up Osama bin Laden to a third country as U.S. jets began a second week of bombing.

What they really wanted was a halt to the bombing in order for their fighters to escape...it was just a ploy and not a sincere offer. Bush understood that.

"They must have not heard. There's no negotiations," the president said.

Returning to the White House after a weekend at the Camp David retreat, Bush reiterated four conditions the Taliban must meet before bombing will be stopped.

"All they got to do is turn him [bin Laden] over, and his colleagues and the thugs he hides, as well as destroy his camps and [release] the innocent people being held hostage in Afghanistan," Bush said.

You libs wanted us to attack Saudi Arabia. That would have been stupid, the Saudis were selling us oil.

Bush was in negotiations with the Taliban just before he invaded.

Taliban vows to guarantee safety of trans-Afghanistan …

Feb 10, 2021 · A Taliban delegation has paid a surprise visit to Turkmenistan to pledge support for a planned natural gas pipeline across Afghanistan, providing welcome reassurance for a project whose viability has long been rendered doubtful by security concerns.

Signs point to the trip having been brokered by the U.S. government, which has long championed what is known as TAPI, named after the four countries the pipeline would cross: Turkmenistan, …

Exactly..
I have said it was a mistake to not go into the tribal lands to finish off the taliban that had fled there.

But that would have alienated Pakistan and the powers that be have said we needed pakistan as an ally to fight terrorism....though I have never accepted that....I do not know enough of about how pakistan was helping us to make a good judgemenrt on that and neither do you.

He was in negotiations before the war started....after the war began all negotiations ceased and rightly so as in we had begun the job we needed to do and the time for negotiations was over though they as bush made clear could still have delivered up bin laden etc. and we would have stopped the bombing.

Bush understood vey well unlike you that the taliban just wanted to stall our attack by pleading for negotiations.

You are so simple minded....we really did not need to even put any troops on the ground in the tribal lands to speak of....just a few special ops teams working with the air force.

We could easily have inflicted so much pain and suffering there that they would have forced the alquada and taliban out of their midst.

TAPI has been on the table since 1995 after the Taliban first came to power. The
