I wonder, will Obama veto this one if it gets to his desk? Isn't there a rule about spending bills originating in the House?

Senate Democrats said Thursday they’re working on their own short-term spending resolution to avert a government shutdown, a response to the Republican House-passed bill that President Barack Obama has threatened to veto.

“We’re working on something,” Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) told POLITICO Thursday when asked about the possibility of a Democratic stop-gap measure.

Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) told reporters there was discussion during a Thursday afternoon Democratic caucus meeting about an alternative short-term plan in the Senate.

“It’s always dangerous to predict around here because of the convoluted nature of Senate rules,” he said, “but there will certainly be an attempt to propose an alternative, including the funding of troops.”

Revenue bills.

Not that it matters even if appropriations were to fit the bill; the House sent the Senate (originated) a continuing resolution yesterday that the Senate is free to amend to its heart's content, including stripping all of the language and substituting its own.
