In exchange for PROMISES of later VOTES on broader reforms, the US Senate agreed on a 77-Day extension of current Surveillance Powers, a bill a vast majority of politicians agree does NOT contain adequate reform to prevent the gross, criminal mis-use of surveillance powers Obama's administration (DOJ, NSA, CIA, FBI, and Intel Community) engaged in, as exposed by the US IG and FISA Court itself.

What the Senate has done is cleared a hurdle allowing them to kick the can down the road in hopes the American people will forget about the historic betrayal of US citizens and criminal use of foreign surveillance act / powers against US citizens so they can continue to do so.

Senate clears 77-day extension of surveillance powers

"As part of the deal, the Senate will vote on amendments once it turns to the House legislation, including a proposal from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to block FISA warrants from being used against Americans. It is also expected to vote on an amendment from Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) that would bolster legal protections for individuals targeted for surveillance.

Opponents of the House bill argue it does not go far enough to reform the surveillance courts, which have been subjected to growing scrutiny after Justice Department inspector general Michael Horowitz found 17 inaccuracies and omissions in the warrant applications targeting Trump campaign associate Carter Page."

(Paul made the point that requests for spying on American citizens do not / should not be requested through a SECRET court but could be requested and obtained through another process through the courts in a timely manner.)
