Report reveals extent of coordination between activists and Obama admin

Environmental activists working to influence the Obama administration’s sweeping new carbon regulations have colluded for years with officials at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), according to a report released Tuesday by the Republican majority of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

The report documents the extent to which activists—particularly those at the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC)—maintained access to officials via email and closed-door meetings and were thus able to feed information to the administration and steer its messaging regarding the regulations, announced Monday, on greenhouse gas emissions from new and existing power plants.

The committee report comes just days after Obama championed the new regulations as “the biggest most important step we’ve ever taken to combat climate change,” and more than two years after the president ordered the EPA to develop such rules for power plants under the Clean Air Act.

According to the report, EPA officials routinely corresponded via email with NRDC leaders with whom they also held meetings away from government property, thereby evading transparency requirements, since the start of the rule making process for the power plant regulations in March 2011.

Cheney Refuses Order for Energy Plan Secrets - ABC News

A government watchdog agency is losing patience with the White House's refusal to detail secret meetings that produced President Bush's national energy policy and is threatening to take steps that could land the tug of war in the courts.

The General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress, has been pressing Vice President Dick Cheney's office to turn over information on the meetings for more than a month.

Cheney headed up the task force, which drafted Bush's plan to dramatically expand the nation's ability to produce energy. Two Democratic congressman asked the GAO to launch the investigation into Cheney's task force in April, suspecting Bush campaign supporters from the energy industry were getting extraordinary access.

While the White House claims to be cooperating, Cheney — through his attorney, David Addington — is refusing to release both the names of people who participated and the schedule of meetings. In letters sent May 16 and June 7, Addington has argued the GAO doesn't even have the right to ask for such information.

And here is the stupid American part. These regulations that are strangling the coal industry, and will create energy bills that a lot of people won't be able to keep up with, have nothing to do with the climate. We are selling this fossil fuel, that we need, to China for pennies on the dollar, and guess what. They are using it. So you tell me, does it effect the climate less if it is used in China instead of here?
Of course not. Welcome to the global initiative. Their gain at our expense.

But the dumbest thing yet is, Obama has agreed to spend billions more out of our paychecks to clean China's air when it gets here, and then jet stream it over to Europe! The only thing we are still exceptional at is stupidity.
