When democrats gained the majority in the 2nd half of Bush's 2nd term Barney Frank became the chairperson of the powerful House Banking Committee that had oversight responsibility for Fannie Mae. Frank told America that Fannie was solvent and thriving but within a year under his watch it failed and almost brought down the entire world's economy. Some conspiracy theorists think it was part of the biggest "October Surprise" in history but if not it proves that Frank was a fool or incompetent. The media never asked him the tough questions and he retired after marrying another man. Maxie Waters makes Frank look like a freaking financial genius so I hope republicans are keeping a close eye on her.
