School Obama's Daughters Attend Has 11 Armed Guards

Some interesting news has broken in the wake of the latest push for gun control by President Obama and Senate Democrats: Obama sends his kids to a school where armed guards are used as a matter of fact.

The school, Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC, has 11 security officers and is seeking to hire a new police officer as we speak.

If you dismiss this by saying, "Of course they have armed guards -- they get Secret Service protection," then you've missed the larger point.

The larger point is that this is standard operating procedure for the school, period. And this is the reason people like NBC's David Gregory send their kids to Sidwell, they know their kids will be protected from the carnage that befell kids at a school where armed guards weren't used (and weren't even allowed).

It's called the Secret Service, I believe. Would you rather the President's children NOT be protected? I'm guessing you'd say "yes"....in this case.

Although to be fair, the one thing that annoys me about a lot of liberals is that they all champion public schools, but most wouldn't send their kids to one.

Of course, most private schools don't have armed security. The Catholic HS I went to had a Chicago cop assigned to it because a lot of the Mayor's friends sent their kids to it.

Of course, the other side of it is that these private schools are under no obligation to take the mentally disturbed kid and assure he takes his Ritalin, either. Those kids all get dumped off on the taxpayers.

Going back to the subject.
According to Star Tribune in Minnesota, to have an armed guard in each school would cost around over $70,000 per guard. So Minnesota has around 2,000 public schools, that means a cost of about $140 million annually to the state. Having just a single guard in the most schools wouldn't be adequate coverage. The cost nation-wide would probably be over 10 billion annually. I guess on the upside it would be a boost to the economy and create jobs?
Hiring armed security guards/rent-a-cop who aren't trained police officers would drop the cost.

Presidents' children are going to be provided Secret Service protection wherever they go. This is to be expected. Regarding Sidwell Friends, the school is going to have 12 armed security officers whether the child of a President is attending or not.

I grew up near Sidwell Friends and knew people who went there. It is a fine school if you can afford it. This school is for the elite. Many surrounding the school's community are what I would call not only elite, but liberal elite. These are liberals with money and are of the "do as I say, not as I do" persuasion that we see throughout US culture. Case in point: many of these Sidwell parents will side with the notion that armed guards should not be used in public schools but who send their children off on a daily basis with the extra piece of mind that their child will have added security in the confines of a Sidwell Friends. Many of these same Sidwell Parents are also against vouchers for inner city children.

How can anyone take seriously an elitist liberal when they are ranting about no armed guards for public schools and/or no voucher for a poor family who want to get their children into a safe school?
