A sufficent # of interceptors or laser emitters that can individually take down single ICBM warheads could defeat a MIRV if placed in a cluster. Such a cluster may not exist yet, but "nothing" is a bit extreme.

Katz, I remember reading an article from News Max in 2003 in which they stated that the Russians had between 20,000 - 40,000 warheads compared to USA at that time ( can't remember what they said we had ) - we were destroying our own weapons - and have never stopped. We are going backwards while they continued to stockpile weapons. What is wrong with that picture?

You're misinformed, Russia's stockpile has been going down since the mid 80s. I believe both countries are aiming to be under 1500 under current treaties.

They have had ICBMs with MIRVs for decades, again there has never been anything our defenses could do to stop a full scale nuclear attack by Soviet Union/Russia. Our defense is the ensuing counterattack.

Your first mistake is in believing that what Newsmax says is true. I can remember a story they ran about Hillary dissing the Gold Star Mothers, that was totally untrue. The GSMs said so themselves, but Newsmax kept it in their archives for about a year and a half before quietly dropping it without apology.

Forget the exact number of warheads we each have The pertinent question is, how many times over do we have to be able to kill each other for MAD to still be effective?
