Here we are in shooting wars as we lost another neighbor just yesterday in Afghanistan, gas is over $3 a gallon, energy is going up, education is failing, health care is fucked up and folks are still worried about 2 adults that happen to be the same sex fall in love and want to get married legally to show their commitment to each other.

Well, to start with they don't offer the same rights. IRS Recognizes all Marriages but not Civil Unions

Secondly, when you say things like "I can have marriage but you can have Civil Unions" that's called "Separate but Equal" and in case you weren't aware, that's unconstitutional.

Now, if you want to remove the word marriage from all legal, civil marriages and call them civil unions for everyone, gay or straight, I'd be fine with that.

If a civil union gave gay couples EXACTLY THE SAME rights as a man/woman marriage, would that be satisfactory? yes or no. No rhetoric, just a yes or no.

Once again, striking down a FEDERAL law does not necessarily violate a state law.If the feds have overstepped, that doesn't necessarily mean the states overstep if they do the same thing. You DO understand that don't you?

In the DOMA ruling the SCOTUS struck down as unconstitutional, Section III. That was the part that said the Federal Government did not have to recognize my legal marriage license issued by my state. With me so far?

In Prop 8, the SCOTUS chose not to rule. In that case, they chose to "kick the can down the road" as you say. They chickened out and chose not to rule on the constitutionality of anti gay marriage laws. What that did was leave the lower court ruling in place. That ruling was that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional and that is the ruling that stands.
