Retiring the A-10

They are not designed or intended to work in contested airspaces, no CAS aircraft is.

The A-10 was never intended for CAS. It was intended to be used against Armor like Tanks and Personnel carriers. The problem is, Tanks got much thicker armor and could fire back. Meanwhile, those unarmed Russian APC were replaced by the BTR-82 and the Bumerang, both carry at least one radar controlled 30mm cannon. Just like if the A-10 were to be used against the Bradleys. And Acre of cannon firing APC is not a healthy place to be in any Aircraft.

The A-7 did on a daily and nightly basis. When a Squadron of A-7s would get jumped by Migs, half of the A-7s would drop their ground attack loads and go Mig Hunting. They were their own Topcaps.
