It's not a President's job to "respect" anybody. He can have gratitude, but, you have to personally KNOW someone to respect them.
However, Trump, or any other president, should be grateful that our service men are out there fighting for us and protecting us.
He should, however, be thankful and grateful, and should indicate such to all servicemen and women, dead or alive.
I have not heard his convo with the woman who's son died, but, if it was as it sounds, it was truthful, albeit, insensitive
