It must be great these days to be a Democrat. They don't have to take a stand and they don't have to worry about what happens if they go back on their promises.
In 2010 it was easy to sign a tax pledge authored by Grover Norquist stating that you pledge never to raise taxes. Not signing it was like saying you just might and would assure that you won't get reelected. Signing it means you're trapped into a promise you just might not keep.
Do you see why it's so easy to be a Democrat as opposed to a Republican? Taking a stand and standing by your principles sometimes ends up biting you in the ass. Remember "Read My Lips"?
That was the mother of all broken promises.
It's amazing how something voters should hate has become a tool to bring down Republicans. The hardest thing a politician can do is have principles. Having principles means being trustworthy and that just isn't a positive aspect these days.
Well, thank you Grover.....you succeeded in painting the GOP into a corner. A corner that it looks like some of them want to get out of.
I have a solution for Republicans......stick to your guns and forget about what will happen if you do. You signed it.....live or die by it.
